Well I have just gotten back from a trip down to San Jose del Cabo with my truck. I was a little sketched at first due to theft, fuel quality, and just the road conditions in general. In order to prepare I wired the cigarette lighter as a kill switch, bought plenty of Stanadyne, and took along plenty of spare parts and tools. All of my worries proved to be for nothing. The truck ran awesome, roads were good, didn't get in "water in fuel" lights coming on. It actually turned out to be very safe down there. The only problem I had was with my camper shell, traveling out to look for surf required many miles on washboard roads, the effect was that the rear window/door vibrated enough to completely crack the fiberglass shell a good 2" and the door is no longer able to lock. The manufacturer is not a big name brand, it came with the truck when I bought it, but of all the potential problems I see this as fairly minor. Next I was wondering about the guys who are driving on sand/beaches, how much psi are you running in your tires? To sum it up I cannot think of taking a better truck down to Mexico. Now that I am back and am reading past posts and I am worried about my dowel pin falling out due to high vibrations down in Mex. Anyone in the Ventura county area or neighboring counties that has solved this problem either with the drill jig or tab washer? I am going to be tearing it open here shortly wanting or wondering if anyone wants to help?

Noseridorr:
Lets see..... You've got a '97, and you are concerned about the dowel pin. You are in the correct forum for some help and comments!
On the other hand I hope you located some great swell in your surf hunt.
I'm looking forward to hearing about your adventure in the "Other" forum.
I'm a single fin longboarder myself.

Noseridorr, hope you hit Todos Santos, great break. The bumpy road you speak of sounds a lot like the east cape coast road, but could be any road in Mexico. Used to hit Rincon in my CA days long ago, no short boards then.

Wondering what a hillbilly from KY is answering this thread for? Have surfed Hawaii to Cape Hatt. NC. Have to settle on Cape Hatt. once a year now , married, two kids. Always wanted to make the mexico trip, never did. Hope you had a blast. Tire pressure can go way down, some go to 10psi. Low pressure is a must in soft sand. Unbelievable difference. The key is running it back up when you get out on pavement.
PS. SO Mexico wasnt like that movie "all the pretty horses" huh?

I'm right up the road from you and would be interested in helping + doing my truck if you get hold of a jig.
Mexico is always fun and I've been treated better there when I've had problems than I could imagine being treated here.
