Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Were to buy vp44???

My brothers pump on his 2002 is going south. Took it to DC. They voided his warranty because he taped the pump wire. Pump is going out because of lift pump failure. Have been calling around. Best price 1600 up to 2200. Where are you guys buying your pumps from? All help will be greatly appreciated.

Got mine new where repair was done...

at Diesel Diagnostics in Lufkin Texas. New pump for $1550 + $50 for next day UPS shipping. Let me know if you are interested in more info.

When I was looking for one, Scheid Diesel in Terre Haute, IN had them new for $1200 approx and $1050 for Bosch Reman. I ended up with a used 10,000 mile unit for $440. But those are the numbers I remember. I wouldn't have a clue on their availability however. They only had one new one at that time.

at least be sure theyve been run on bosch's tester

I actually would like to know if there is any kind of test, or,?, scan information I can get with my Harrison Scan software, or my Cummins 'Quick Check II' that will tell me if there is a future failure coming to my 'VP 44. ' The reason I'm even concerned is because my engine has a tendency to act like a 'Ford Diesel' when the outside temperture is over 100 degrees, in that it cranks for a longer time to start! I'm paranoid because I have the Edge 'pump' wire 'tapped' with the 'comp' hook-up, so that every time that it does not start with only a click of the starter immediatley, I worry that I've 'broke' the 'VP 44. '

Are the replacement VP-44's "New and Improved" or are they just as fragile as the ones they are replacing. Do the 03's have a different set-up than the VP-44????

I wouldn't really say they are fragile. They can stand up to abuse. You can also buy some that have been reworked by someone like Peirs that are better than stock of course.



As for the 03's, they use a different injection system all together. They use a common rail set up that keeps the system under constant high pressure rather than pressurizing each line individually.

Yes, it is a new pump that they are using. It is not a new design so to say. Other companies have been using similar designs. It's job is considered to be easier because it keeps one line under constant pressure rather than multiple lines under pressure that is constantly varying. The injection points are solenoid activated, I think. If I am wrong on that point I am sure someone will correct me.

The newer injection process is partly the reason why the new design is so much quieter.
