Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) were to tap intake for boost

I have been trying to find tech questions on how to or were to tap the boost sensor.

I'm putting the pyro in the manifold but not sure were to mount the boost.

also is the wiring easy to locate to hook up the lights to the dimmer for the dash lights?

Hi Jim,

Although you didn't say for what truck, the easiest source of boost signal is the large plugged hole just forward of the MAPP sensor on the left (driver's) side of the engine on a 24V. It's a 3/4" NPT (I think) plug - remove it, replace with a fitting drilled and tapped for 1/8" pipe to connect your gauge line.



I took gauge lighting from the tan colored wire on the back of the headlight switch by just connecting the gauge pos wire to it. Makes the cluster dimmer work with the switch like the rest.

I think that it's also the #14 5a fuse in the box on the leftside of the dash, so you could go there too.

Another idea...

For the gauge lights, you may want to look at tapping into the ash tray light wire. I did on mine. Its easy and doesnt take too long. It also dims with the dimmer switch.

Check out Piers Diesel Research for a non-destructive way of hooking up your boost guage. I bought their special hollow bolt that replaces one of your intake bolts and it works great. The bolt has the same thread as your intake bolt and on the top side it is machined for a 1/8 inch compression fitting that is so common to the Autometer boost guages.

I put in Piers boost port yesterday, works slick.

Drilled, tapped and put it in the rear of the Intake Plenum just to the right of where the oil dipstick mounts. I bought some gaskets for the intake grid heaters as I replace them after removing the Intake Plenum to do the dilling, etc. I guess I got brave after doing the exhaust manifold. Works great at this location.

Put mine in a couple of weeks ago. It's a 2 minute job and best of all you can put it back the way it was if you decide to sell the truck.

I just ordered the replacement bolt for the intake manifold from pierce diesel.

It will be here in time to install this weekend.
