hey guys, ive had the SP66 on my truck now for just about 400miles, and i love this turbo, i had a 64/12 on before and that was a good turbo, but ive added more fuel and need more ait to burn it all anyay, when i was coming home tonight i was noticing a weird noise. the noise only started at 4 psi, and immediately went away when i went over 4 psi. the noise sounded like something was rubbing on the compressor blade, when i got home, i took the intake tube off, and got a flash light and looked at the compressor. i did not notice anything weird at all, no rub marks that were visible, the compressor blades looked fine, and the turbo spun freely. now i know im sure im just paranoid about something breaking on my truck, when installed the turbo, i gave a good 200miles for it to break in before i saw boost numbers above 20psi, im just wondering what this noise was that i heard. the weird thing is that i just stated hearing it about 2 miles before i got to my house, and i had been driving the truck all morning, and about 30min before i got home. the truck was up to operating temp. i tried to move the compressor wheel up and down, there was some play in the wheel, but i could not get it rub anywhere on the housing, sooo just go ahead and tell me in paranoid, cause i couldnt see anything wrong with the turbo. has anybody head this noise before with a 66/14? if you have what was the the problem, and fix. thanks

The compressor will have some up and down movement. What you need to check for is in and out movement. Your thrust bearing may be damaged causing the compressor wheel to contact the housing. Check for thrust movement. If you can feel any movement at all then you should contact the builder. Normally a diesel won't eat up a thrust bearing due to the fact that it has no compressor surge since there is no throttle plate. But, your turbo may have not been assembled correctly causing premature wear. HTH Scott
