Combo Gauge

I didn't find the Combo Gauge easy to install (of course, if I depended on my mechanical skills to earn a living, I would starve!:D). However, it wasn't that bad and was certainly worth the effort. Take your time and do it right. One thing I did that I'm going to have to undo: putting the plastic shield over the gauge light. With that shield in place, there is not enough light to easily see the dial at night.

I like my combo egt/turbo gauge from Westach, however my turbo gauge quit working because of the oil in my k&N filter clogged it up!

radixr,

I have the green cover over my Westach combo gauge and I have no problems seeing it at night. It is plenty bright. You might what to check and see if the bulb is inserted all the way into the gauge... . ;)

Thanks, Rick, I'll check that out before I remove the shield. I should mention that I'm red-green color blind. I don't know if that is if that is why I can't see it too well or not. In fact, I think there was a choice of shields to cover the bulb. I'm not sure which one I used!:p

If you put the heat probe in the manifold ahead of the turbo, make sure you drill to either left or right of center. You can't drill through the center because the casting has a divider or rib running down the middle.

Genos supplies great instructions with their kit. Read them twice, The worst part, for me was opening up the hole in the plastic bezel ( You'll need some sand paper - maybe 80, or 180 grit) and finding a "hot" key on lead. I mounted an aux fuse box off of the heater blower fuse. on my truck, there was a light in the top of the fold down cup holder. Just pop open the little door and there it is - I used this for the light lead. ;)

They call the little bulb 'socks" rubbers -... and thats exactly how they go on the bulb, and make sure the bulb is completely seated in its hole.

Ummm... . did you do the same thing I did the first time I installed mine? The combo EGT/boost gauge is deeper (longer) than the Westach fuel pressure gauge and you have to use one of the white plastic extension pieces in addition to the standard long one on the bulb mount to get the bulb all the way to the front of the gauge. I didn't and had the same problem. After disassembling everything and installing the bulb extension (yeah, luckily I didn't glue everything together), it works great with the green cover - has the same lighting level as the combo fuel pressure gauge.

I had the same problem, to read the gauge I'd have to turn the dash light all the way up. To fix this I located a line that is hot (12VDC, w/ignition on) all the time for the light on the gauge. This works well and I don't have to strain to read the gauge.

One small suggestion. I would add a tie wrap or a small hose clamp on the barbed fittings for the rubber hose. As soon as I hit 35 psi the hose blew off (Guage side). Tied it off until I had time to take the dash apart and the one on the intake horn blew off. Used a small tie wrap to secure them and they are staying put. Ken

My combo guage went in very easily, but I still have a problem with the egt needle wanting to stay at the low end of the scale until I (or a pothole) "bump" it. Then it reads fine. Sending it back to Westach twice didn't help. Just 2 weeks lost each time. I deal with it.
