Did a search on this and found some older info on Westach guages, but I am wondering specifically about people who are using this guage--

WESTACH - 2" COMBO GAUGE - HIGH OUTPUT - BOOST/EGT (1/4NPT)-Dodge Cummins and Ford Power Stroke Diesel Truck Accessories - Geno's Garage

I want to mount one gauge only in the a-pillar location because I like the idea of having access to boost and pyro info in that location... for me it is the easiest location to read while driving.

My questions are--

impressions of quality AND reliability...
impressions of Accuracy
ease of reading the dual gauge...
color of backlight on white guage...
opinions as to whether this gauge at least sort of matches OEM

TIA

PS--does anyone know of any other NON-digital dual gauges?? Not trying to bad mouth digital, just don't like em myself.

I have Westach boost/egt, fuel pressure, and dual engine oil temp/trans temp. Installed them about 8 years ago, only problem 1 burned out bulb. I have checked their accuracy with my certified aircraft gauges and they arewithin the range they say . Hope this helps.

I've had the black faced version in my truck since new - had to replace the pyro sensor a couple years back - no other issues, would highly recommend them - the black face and green bulb covers match my '02 dash gauges perfectly, are are easy to read, day or night.

I have been running that gauge for the last 6years, I bought it used from a guy off here, put it in my 02, ran it for 4 years in that truck, then moved it to my '06 for the last 2. its a great gauge I highly recommend it. for 3rd gens I would get the white face, I think its very durable, I never have a problem reading the gauge, Ithought that would be a problem before I bought it because I wanted to only run a 2 gauge pod, however I think they are very easy to read, you will mostly watch the pyro anyways, and used the boost reading to confirm everything is ok

found ANOTHER dual guage BOTH digital and analog

CC, thanks also for taking time to reply!! Sounds like the Westach is a fine guage; I'll probably go with it, but in the meantime I did find this link to some interesting dual analog/digital guages made for TDI's.

McNallyelectronics.com

Anybody using them??
Whaadya all think??

I have had the Westach combo gauge on my truck for three years and have had no problems at all. The gauge is easy to read and the light on the white faces gauge is a light green. I think the gauge is an acceptable match to the stock 3rd gen gauges. I have a Westach fuel pressure, oil pressure, and trans temp as well. Just gotta find the time to install them. Ed B

I installed the Westach dual gauge on my '04. 5 a couple years ago and have been very happy with it. Very easy to read and great location on the A-Pillar with the SRT-10 mount. When I was researching the gauges I called Westach to inquire about the dual gauge and they indidcated Geno's sourced this gauge with the CTD in mind. Per the Westech rep, over 95% of the gauges are sold through Geno's (two years ago anyway, not sure if this has changed).

I may switch in the near future for a Quad Commander to add the fuel pressure capability, otherwise I am very happy with the Westach.

As far as the McNally is concerned, I suppose I would consider it if I had a TDI, as it is devoloped for a TDI and it's parameters, otherwise I would stick with a gauge designed for our CTD's.

I had one in my '03:

#ad

And I put another one in my '07. They work well. It's interesting that the EGT is self-powered and the boost is what requires 12v to operate. Exactly the opposite of the Isspros that I had...

Everyone, Thanks for the pix and info!! All very helpful.
I'm definitely going to go with the Westach EGT/Boost gauge in the A-pillar location.
Later, I will add a real VDC, a real Oil pressure, and tran temp in a pod over the mirror.

I love my Westach combo. Tip on install, I think it was TDR contributor Jim Patton who recommended tossing the back fastening hardware. Wrap the gage body with some black electrical tape for a snug fit. This makes it easy to pull the gage from A-pillar to change bulb, fix connections etc. Definitely use the green bulb filter (don't lose it!), its a bit bright otherwise, even wired to dash dimmer.

Have had one since 04 in mine. Works and looks good. Not quite a perferct match at night but ok. Every one else thats ever comminted on it thinks its factory.

Very happy with mine.

Bout the only thing I can add is for you to put a twisty or tye wrap on the boost hose on the gauge nipple.

I didnt & she blew off while towing. Had to pull over & do it right.

I have read others had this problem.

My questions are--

impressions of quality AND reliability... no complaints

impressions of AccuracyI haven't checked

ease of reading the dual gauge... I like it, I'm old

color of backlight on white guage... I thought the light bulb was a spare and never installed them

opinions as to whether this gauge at least sort of matches OEM not on my 2nd gen, but I didn't care

If I had it to do over, yes I would.

:-laf you are not alone, I did th same thing. I about crapped when the boost went to 0 and I still had power, then there was the a-ha moment.

Thanks again you guys-- I ended up buying BHolms slightly used A-pillar with a Westach Dual Guage in it. He just shipped it yesterday, and I probably wont have time to install it for at least several weeks. Based on everything you guys have told me, I will definitely upgrade the hose to barb fittings on both ends with a zip tie or wire or something. In the meantime, I have found some interesting news from Westach, which happens to be located only a couple hours from where I live. They will actually manufacture custom 2" dual guages with many different types of readings in either half of the guage. I am thinking eventually of going with a 3 or 4 pod windshield/mirror mount pod mount with say:

1) a oil pressure/oil temp gauge
2) voltmeter/ammeter gauge
3) transmission temp/rear diff temp gauge
4) LP fuel pressure before and after filter OR
4) LP fuel pressure/ common rail pressure

The last two are kind of optional for my 2005 with intank LP, but I am still going to think about it.

They pair the gauges with the appropriate sending units or sensors.

Check out the link--their prices are not really half bad for 2 gauges in one.

GO TO "build an instrument" on the left column.

Maybe eventaully I'll contact them about a group buy, if there is enough interest, but that is for ANOTHER thread.

Oh man, this is cool. I have been wanting to limit my gauges to the two I have. my bottom is boost/EGT, the top is LP psi. If I can do LP psi/trany temp, that would be the the ***** and I wouldn't have to loose my cuby hole in the dash. Oo.

Thank you, for that link!

Jeff, your welcome--I thought it was really cool also!!

Another top gauge to look at is the DiPricol. Not a dual setup but analog. The nice thing aboubt them is you can adjust the back lighting so it'll follow the same intensity as the rest of the oem gauges. I have a big problem with Isspro gauges being way to dim because I run my dimmer all the way down while cruising long distances.

I own the Wastach dual temp for trans and diff. Great setup.
