2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Westach Gauge Question

I am about to purchase gauges and I think I have narrowed it down to the Westach dual Boost/EGT, Transmission Temp, and Fuel Pressure mounted in a Triple Full Pillar. I know there are 100's of threads on this subject but I cannot find answers to all my questions.



I have a 96 2500 Auto and I need to know the following:



1. What range Boost, 35 or 50 psi?

2. What range Fuel Pressure, 16 or 30 psi?

3. 1/8" or 1/4" NPT probe for Boost/EGT?

4. 1/8" or 1/4" NPT for Transmission Temp or dipstick sensor?

5. If I buy from Genos, do the instructions provide enough information on how and where to install these gauges, especially the fuel pressure gauge sensor and the transmission temperature sensor?

6. Is this a fairly easy installation?

7. Anything else that I need to know?



Sorry for so many questions but there are many unkowns at this point. Thanx in advance for any help that you may give.

I have used westach boost/egt & trans. temp. gauges in my 95 auto for years . Good service,35# boost is all you need unless you B!big time. Geno,s info. should be good,check ome temp. sender fitting on out line from tc add 'T'& put in 1/8temp. sender. If your tr. does not have updated {all steel}out line from tc do it now before plastic fitting let,s you down.

I use a 40 PSI fuel pressure gauge. 30 is not quite enough. You will need to buy the 40 from Westach.

I am getting ready to install the same gauges on my 2004. 5 Dodge ram truck, Is Westach the best gauges? I can't see going to all this trouble and expense unless you have accurate gauges. Thanks

I had Westach on my 98 and they are good gauges. The only problem I had was the boost gauge had a weird "rattle" under acceleration. I could never get it to stop so I went with the SPA digital on my 01. I will probably go with SPA again on my new truck.

I found that I have to run a snubber on my mechanical gauges (boost and fuel pressure) or else they rattle. Grainger has them cheap.

I've run Westach boost/egt, fuel PSI dual guage setup for nearly 3 years now with ZERO problems or complaint.

My boost guage is the 35 PSI unit, and the EGT probe is the 1/8 diameter job. I guess I should mention that the original EGT probe DID fail about 6 months ago, but I consider than a very isolated failure that was quite possibly caused by removing it from the manifold one time to run a crude check on it's accuracy, since a few guys here couldn't believe my max EGT was under 1100 degrees even in hard towing - I suspect the added stress of being snugged twice may have caused an internal physical distortion and early failure - the replacement is dead on with the original in temp readout...

It appears at this point that the only difference in the 1/8" and 1/4" selection is that it would be easier to clean out the metal shavings on the EGT installation with the 1/4". Is there any other advantage or disadvantage of the size used?



Also I am hearing that 30# is not high enough for fuel pressure. What fuel pressure is everyone seeing on the '96 fuel system?

My '95 pegs my 40 PSI gauge in certain situations. Slowing for an off ramp on the freeway is one. No problem getting a 40. Geno's doesn't have it, but an e-mail to Westach will get you the correct part number to order it from them.

What does you normal cruising fuel pressure run and have you made any modifications that would affect what you are getting?

I cruise in the high 20s or low 30s. No real mods to affect pressure. Idle is 20 to 22 or so. I had a weak overflow valve at one time so my pressures were low. The spring in it was less than 1/2" so I stretched it until it met the spec of just a little over 1/2" (. 550"). My pressure seems to change depending on outside air temp. I know that doesn't make a lot of sense, but cold weather seems to mean more fuel pressure. Any air leak will drop pressure so a fuel pressure gauge is very handy to head off problems before you have to walk.
