I know I am going to get flamed for this but I am tired of biting my tongue.
WARNING!! This is a rant. A rant that has been building for years of reading messages here and biting my tongue. If you are easily offended, please don't read further.
When I first joined the TDR years ago (5 or 6 I believe) the attitude here was completely different. The most often phrase I heard was "You are your own warranty station".
Now the phrase seems to have been changed to "Tell me how to hide my mods or a dealer who won't hold me accountable to my end of the bargain".
It's a shame really. Modding has really created an "Us vs Them" mentality. Somebody else asked why the dealers won't just fix things when they can make money off doing warranty work. I will tell you why: the dealers have to get approval for major fixes and if they fix something that Dodge later determines (rightly so or not) that the warranty should have been voided, then the dealer doesn't get re-imbursed.
I know people think it's crappy that Dodge would void a warranty when they believe that the mod didn't have anything to do whatever failed but your warranty is a legal contract. You leave the vehicle stock and they will honor the warranty. That's really what it comes down to.
The dishonesty comes in when dealer "X" says that the mod they just installed for you won't void your warranty. While dealer "X" may honor your warranty as long as they can, if Chrysler gets involved, it is no longer in the dealers hands.
So who's to blame? Well, first of all the people who dishonestly remove all that stuff to try and pull a fast one on the dealers. Secondly, Chrysler for performing just a blanket warranty void without trying to determine what the real cause is. But, who can blame them when so many of the customers try to get a warranty fix for something that they broke by making the truck perform outside of the performance it was designed for??
You know, it's getting hard enough to get legitimate warranty work done WITHOUT mods on your truck and it only makes it worse when folks fraudulently seek warranty work for something they broke in the pursuit of 1000 ft/lbs of torque and 800hp.
Bottom line? If you are interested in keeping your warranty, don't do things that will void it.
Oh, and for the record, I don't work for a dealership or Chrysler. I just think people should be held accountable for the decisions they make rather than trying to get somebody else to pay for it.
I have no doubt that at some point my ball joints are going to fail. When I take the truck in, they are going to look at my 2 inch leveler and say "sorry bud, can't replace them under warranty because you modified the suspension. " That's the risk I run by "modifying" my truck. I am ok with that.
Ok, rant off. Feel free to flame me back, I have thick skin.
