Don't try importing a vehicle into Spain....

For those that were wondering about me...

My father and I are planning a road trip outwest ( from Indiana) for about 10 to 12 days, we are planning on going to Mt rushmore , cody wyoming ( buffalo Bill musuem, and the battlesite of the little big horn. If we think time permits we may try to make it to california, to see the Redwoods. Any advice as the best western road trip, to see the most, and still do it under 2 weeks, also any other interesting things to take in while in that area. We probably wont have time to loop south very far on our way back.

If you are coming to Mt. Rushmore, be aware the city of Keystone had a devastating fire last week, burned down nine businesses. This is the tourist town that is right below Mt. Rushmore. I have not heard much on how it is impacting other than traffic is slow getting up there because of the cleanup. Still well worth it. I have been alot of places in this world, travelling with the military and just going on trips and I still feel like the Black Hills is one of the best places in the world.

If you are gonna be heading over towards the Big Horns afterward both Yellowstone and Jackson Hole are neat places to see. Everyone should see Yellowstone at least once in their lifetime. It is unbelievable some of the sites that are there.

Have a good time!!

If ya have time come on down the Green River WY, south west on I80, and we can have lunch or supper and shoot the bull.

fbaurley... I have made the trip you are talking about from Pennsylvania every year since 1976.

What part of Indiana are you in? Will you be towing an RV, driving a truck camper, Tenting or staying in Motels? It makes a big difference in stategy.

I would try to include Zion National Park and Grand Canyon. (North Rim) Bryce Canyon is also interesting since you are "in the neighborhood", but not quite as spectactularly breathtaking as Zion & North Rim.

Monument Valley at sunset (or anytime) is really an incredible sight too.

Plan to spend the day in Cody at the museum, it's a big one and will take most of the day to see it. Excellent gun collection too.

If you can plan it for the middle of the week, there is some great scenery in CO. Great view from Pike's Peak on a clear day. Supposedly can see into 3 or 4 states. I grew up in MO, and hated it. MAy be moving back there soon. Cant see more than a 1/2 mile, and the air is so heavy.

there are several canyons that may not accomodate an RV, but they will do in a full size PU. "Hwy" 67 from Canyon City to Cripple Creek is a pretty drive. 30 miles of gravel switchbacks and narrow drop offs. Then up 24 to I 70. Or just look on the map and plot your own route along the smaller roads. Dont have to worry too much about snow this time of year.

I took a trip to California last year following an I-90 route that I got here. Try a search, it was a great trip out. The trip back we took I-80. Not as nice a road, about the same length but lots of traffic. We did stop in Cheyenne and took a tour around town, nice place.

Here are a few more places to stop at: Wall Drug/Badlands, Devils Tower and one pass down Main Street in Sturgis. Wall Drug is a very interesting place, but the Badlands is a sight that I will never forget. Devil's Tower is pretty cool to look at up close, and even though you may see too many HOG's while going down Main Street in Sturgis, just imagine all of the bikes lined up on the curbs, and then down the middle. All of these are on or just slightly off of I 90, so enjoy the time with pops and have fun.
