I've been thinking of putting the Westin Oval tube steps on my truck. I searched the archives and noticed that a lot of complaints have been made about the squeaking coming from the rear bracket, however it seems those posts are several months old. Does anyone know if this is still the case? I'm hoping to hear that Westin has changed something with the mounting bracket to address this.

I have a set on my 2001 and have never had any problem whatsoever with them. Easy to install and never squeaked once... . they've been on for almost 2 years now.

Three months so far no squeaks, they got pretty packed full of slush though with all the snow we have, even with the mud flaps.

I installed the Westin Ovals. A LOT of trouble with squeaks, but from just one rear mounting bracket (passenger side). I worked with Westin to resolve. However, it still squeaks, but is MUCH better than it used to be.

No squeaks here... . did have trouble installing them though. The trick is to keep all the bolts loose then align brackets and straps, THEN the last thing, is to bolt on the steps themselves.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Seems like the ovals are the ones with potential squeaks? So far, everyone with the standard tubes have no issues.

I could always go the mopar route, I just think the Westins look a little better.

I had the Westin Ovals and would not recommend them. First off, I had to grind the heck out of the rear brackets so they would not touch the frame and subsequently squeak. Secondly, within a few months the chrome was already pitting and this was during the summer months with no sand/salt exposure.

Sorry for not properly reading your post I have the round bars that I have no problem with I did not relize there were two different types.

Like t6_man said passenger side rear, squeaks.

I put on some nylon washers and that solved most of the problems. I can only hear a squeak on very rough roads.

The oval ones look okay, but I believe that the good old classic Signature style bars do look better. I bought prior to seeing enough style and I will live with what I have.

Yes mine squeak-rear passenger bracket. The metal bracket rubs against the body mount bracket it is tucked into. I squirt it with WD40 every time I hear it start and that cures it for about 3-4 weeks, but it always comes back once dry. Other wise they are fine.

Mine came with a square plasticspacer/washer that went between the bracket and the body panel, I wonder if that is there to keep it from squeaking?

"SQUEAKS" Why didn't someone tell me these things squeak. Heck I can't hear anything in my truck other than engine. This truck could be falling apart and I wouldn't hear anything. Guess I better wait until I get me a new quiet one so I can hear all these squeaks and things. Oo. Oo.
