2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Wet Passenger Floor

OK pass side floor is drenched. From what I can tell it's the 3rd brake light. Can't believe that this much water can come in. So does the dealer make an improved gasket/seal for the light? or should I use some silicone to seal her up? Now the big question what is the best way to get the thick foam padding to dry? Don't need mold growing in my truck---- any help appreciated.

Are you sure that it's the 3rd brake light? I've also seen wet floorboards caused by water leaking back around the drain for the A/C unit.



I attached a hose with a 90 bend to the drain and extended it down to the front axle. This keeps the water from leaking back around the drain line, and the air passing over the end of the hose should help pull some of the condensation out.

Most of the time its the 3rd brake light /cargo light. I used the putty tape the RV places use to seal windows and it works fine. Silicone may not be the best answer. Even plumbers putty will work good.

The padding under the carpet, once wet, should be replaced. It'll begin to smell, even after drying, if you leave it in the truck.



Best thing to do is to remove & shampoo the carpet, and replace the padding. You can get it @ Home Depot, etc.



Leave the padding & carpet out long enough for the floorboards to dry out- you don't want to trap moisture against the metal so it can begin to rust.

i had to replace my passenger side carpet along witht he passerger side power window switch... . seeing that my gf didnt put up my window when we got out and it poured. that sucked but it wasnt to hard to replace the carpet

I agree with Bill Lins. You should remove the carpet and discard the wet padding. I had a lingering musty smell in the cab until I got rid of mine. I did some sound-deadening while I had it gutted. Try to keep whatever you use for new padding off the low spots on the outside couple of inches of the cab floor. The carpet can be cleaned to whatever degree you want with whatever you have available.



The leak... Hopefully it is your 3rd brake light, that'll be easy to deal with. I replaced the gasket with one from the dealer (about $6. 00). The new gasket is better that the one in there now, at least it was in my case. Avoid silicone, it is acidic (or the curing agent is acidic) and will corrode the paint and sheet steel over time. If the water keeps coming in from the rear of the cab after the repair, then you'll be in my boat (pun intended). Good luck.
