Wew! It's not the pump

Had a scare the other day. Came home from pheasant hunting with my Chessie and pulled up in front of the house. Let her cool down adn shut the key off. Lights and gauges went off but the truck kept running. Don't ask why but I turned the key back on and tried it one more time. Guess what? It still kept running.



Went out and used the manual fuel cutoff. I knew it could only be two things. Tonight, I pulled the fuel shut-off solenoid. I'm a happy man! The only thing wrong was a little piece of the plunger was missing! Oo. Oo. Oo. Put my spare fuel shut-off solenoid in and I should be good to go! Everyone does have a spare fuel shut-off solenoid sitting in their spare parts kit, right? Well, I did.



The best part is, I only paid $32 for it when I got it. If I could just convince the wife to let me spend half of the money I saved us by not needing a new VE ... :-{} :-{}

Well I am glad you dont need a new pump Carl. Why did the little piece break off? Was it old? Too much supply pressure? Or just dont know how it broke?

It is the original pump and I'm pretty sure it was the original fuel shut-off solenoid. It seemed kind of hard relative to the one I installed. As for why it broke off? Good question. A better question is where did the piece go? I know a while back, HDM48 had the same thing happen. Only difference was when he removed his fuel shut-off solenoid, he didn't even have a rubber tip on it anymore. He never found any of it either.

251k on your pump and it is the original wow. I think I had to replace the original silinoid at around 80k and replaced the pump at 150k or so. Now it looks like I am going to replace the pump again in the near future. I am leaking fuel out of the manual shut off lever. It may be just a seal, but it is hard to tell. Oh well I would like to get it on the test stand to see how much fuel I can get out of it.



Do you know if you have one of the recall pumps on yours? I know that dodge replaced some of them not sure what year they did it on though. Also what are you going to do to get over the 300hp mark?

You'd think it would be that easy. Mine will say, "But by getting this today, I saved 50%!" Then I say, "But if you hadn't gotten it at all, you'd have saved 100%!!"

Actually, it is more like 256K now. I haven't updated my sig lately. It was not a recall pump. I did take it in back in 95 when I bought the truck to have it checked. AS for getting over the 300 mark, all I have to do is turn the full fuel screw just a little bit more. I'm no where near bottomed out on it. I just have it turned back a little to keep my idle down a little lower. When I first put my rig back together after the head gasket, I had the full fuel screw in another full turn and it was no where near being in a runaway condition. I'm also going to be replacing my ported 16 cm housing with a ported non-wastegated 14cm housing and opening up the exhaust a little. I'm still running the stock down pipe and tubing to the front of the muffler. :-laf Gonna have 3 1/2" from the turbo to the tailpipe.



BTW, I haven't heard much about the BUST project lately. How's that going since the head gasket ordeal?
