A friend of mine recently purchased a turbocharger from a sled-shop near
here.
The turbo was something new that the shop wanted him to try. It started out
as a H2E then they machined the housing to fit in a 72mm inducer wheel. And
then machined a 17cm2 Non WG exhaust housing to fit.
It sounds like a cool idea but I told him it would probably surge itself to
death.
The builder told him that he wouldn't have to worry about breaking it and
that he had sled guys pushing this turbo 75-80psi
He installed the turbo on his truck and he pushed it to 65 psi a couple of
times at most. Then less than a week after he installed the charger it ate
itself. And started pouring oil into his motor.
All he has for fuel is a warmed up 215 pump (12V) and some 370 injectors.
The builder told him he didn't have enough fuel to push the turbo hard
enough to break it. Yet now its broke and the builder says its his fault and
won't stand behind it.
By the way this is a street truck never has been hooked to a sled.
Should I tell my buddy that he should just move on and just consider it part
of competiton or should I tell him to lean on the builder a bit harder.
