What 3rd Gen Brake Pads?

I'm just about to roll over 60,000 miles and I'm sure I will need brakes soon. I'm having a hard time finding a good performance pad for towing, I tow almost everyday of the week and would like a pad that will last long. My last truck was a 2002 and I had to change the pads at 50,000 so I figure the time is coming. I want to be prepared instead of having to go buy from the local parts store with their below par pads. Does anyone know where to get some better pads?

Factory! In my opinion always work better then aftermarket.

I have to agree I like the factory pads also, alot better quality then most aftermarkets.

I'm using EBC greenstuff 7000 pads front and rear. Not much mileage on them yet, but they don't dust up much and brake good so far, plus no noise.



When I was looking at their stuff, I see they have a pad designed for diesel's also (yellow), I didn't get them because they wern't in stock, but they might be nice.

dc does not make them. so that means aftermaket will be the same from that manufacturer. I have had great luck with the pads from napa.

While this might be true, usually the OEM stuff is a higher quality and held to more exacting tolerances.

The few times I used NAPA and their BEST QUAILTY pad I ended up throwing them in the trash in less then a month. Learned my lesson years ago. I buy factory pads.

i'm using the EBC yellow Hi-Perf on the front and the 7000 series on the back , man talk about lockin the seat belt on a brake check. hotter they get the higher the co-efficient of friction, and they are practically dust free !! Oo.

I may go the factory route. The ones on my truck now are factory and have lasted this long. However, I would like to try something else, because the factory ones seem to have a lot of dust issues.



CIverson, where did you get the green pads? Do you have the model number and price? Any help would be appreciated.

How do you know that you need them? I had 66,000 on mine when the rear brake caliper froze on the driver's side. I have towed probably about 40% of those miles with some decent weight behind it. My pads still looked great. From several posts on the '04. 5 on here, some guys are pulling 150k or more from a set of pads. Don't spend the money unless the pads are actually worn... The "D-line" pads from my dealer were $92/set for the rear. Those are supposed to be the top line pads they used from the factory. If you don't specify at the dealer, you may end up with a lower quality pad. I read somewhere that they have possibly 4 different brands of pads that were used on the CTD Rams.

I got mine from summitracing.com They had em in stock and I needed em next day so I got them from there. They have a think where you can put in the make/model of vehicle and it should bring them up. If not go do the EBC webstie and you can confirm the p/n. If you can't find the right ones PM me and I can look around and see if I can find my reciept.



My wheels used to get black w/ dust from the factory pads, these pads are sooo much better.

I put 96,861 miles on my 03 3500 QC Long Box w/NV-5600 and NO exhaust brake before I sold it for a 06 MEGA CAB. The pads were still good and the breaks still felt good, down yes, but still good. I would have to say stockers, from that experience, but have never heard of the other pads.

I forget what pads are on my truck now but there are 42000 miles on them now and they still have good meat, but i know my exhaust brake helps out a whole lot!!!! with that
