Differences between a/c and heat pump??

Something good to pass along! We stopped at a local Camping World this afternoon to return an item. Since we had pulled in hooked up, we hooked up decided to get propane. The gal told us that for an indefinite time, all CW's who sell propane will be charging half price on Tuesdays & Wednesdays! We filled up one tank and topped off the other. What a nice treat. Hugs, Di

No CW near me but around here you never know what they will charge. Most just put tank on scales and dial in the tare weight and and you pay for what ever the tank is supposed to hold even if it is half full already. For the rv size tank, 7 gal. I believe a place in Port Arthur charged me $27. 00, a place in Silsbee charged $24. . 00 and the last time I had one filled at Flying J in Orange they charged me $21. 00. They charge you by the pump amount, not the weight. bg

Di, how much did you pay at the half price rate?

I get my propane here in Albuquerque at Ortega's Propane for $2. 20 per gal and they do weigh the tank and charge you only for what the tank took. My 5er has two 10 gal tanks, so I can go a long way, but when I have to buy it elsewhere, I always pay through the nose.

We paid $1. 99 and have 2-40 gallon tanks. $4. 00 a gallon is one we would have just pulled out on as that is outrageous but when she said half price it made it feel a bit better. It was in prime season in Tallahassee Florida so we felt it was pretty good. Last fill up at Flying J was over $3. 00 a gallon in Pensacola, FL. Hugs, Di

I just filled up some tanks at local Costco. Price was 14. 50 for a 30Lb tank and 10. 50 for a 20Lb tank. Most other places are pretty much double of these prices in the area.

In this part of Canada we go by weight. My TT has 2 30 lb bottles. Some places will charge you a flat rate for the fill even if your bottle is half full others just charge you by the lb. Kind of funny sine we don't use pounds any more :-laf Shad

The propane stations I use weigh the tank to get an accurate fill and charge by the litre. A litre of propane weighs 0. 504kg or 1. 1 pounds.

I guess you could say its better to weigh, now the logic. When purchased by the gallon, that is what is pumped, and in the process you vent the gas from the top to make room for the liquid filling at the bottom until liquid spews from the gas vent. The gas that vents is weight, and if you think about it, your paying for that. :{

The only time they vent propane anymore here is when you have a brand new tank and that is just to get the air out. If tank has previously had propane, venting is not necessary. bg

As previously posted propane in Canada is sold by weight. I know that I get screwed over a lot of the time because they can manouver the scales and often I catch them with a toe on the scale. I like buying it by the gallon so I pay for what I get. I am also trying to get propane from better suppliers so as to avoid poor quality and contamination. Another thing I do is add methy hydrate to the bottles when it starts getting below freezing.

All propane places I have used here on the left coast charge by the gallon. When a scale is used, it's to keep from overfilling the tank. Just returned from a trip and paid as high as $3/gal + tax in CA and as low as $2/gal incl. tax in Sun City, AZ.

The gas is not vented unless to purge a new tank of air. The actual pressure is the same in the tank regardless if there is one pound or 20 as long as temp remains constant

I fill my portable RV tanks myself from my 500-gallon storage tank. I have a "wet" valve on the tank with the proper fill hose, valves, and connector to fill portable tanks. :)

We just paid a $1. 39 Per Gal on a customer owned tank fill, I was wondering about doing the same thing when it was being filled. We haven't had much of a need to fill Propane tanks other than our BBQ and its not all that big, But could have a need soon what all is needed to do this Bill for filling up a couple of tanks like on an RV. NOT THAT I CARE!!!!! CAUSE WHO'S GOING TO SEE, BUT IS IT LEGAL TO DO THIS? its not like off road Diesel or anything is it? after all we bought it what does it matter where its used!! and can I get all the hook ups at a hardware store like Home Cheap-O / Lowe's or even the Propnae company if they dont care about it being done.

I'm not Bill, but I'll answer. If you look up "propane wet leg" you will find a lot of info on it. It is a valve either located at the top, with a pipe going almost to the bottom of the tank, or a valve close to the bottom of the tank. There is a hose attached to it that has a valve on the end of it. Typically a flip valve that can be shut off quick. The basic process is you attach the hose to the small tank, open both valves and the pressure from the large tank pushes the propane into the smaller tank. To assist this you open the vent on the small tank to allow vapor to escape and liquid to enter. This does waste the vapor - however a propane pump is VERY expensive. That is the basic info.

Is it legal - yes, but you might have some local ordinances stating otherwise. It is very common for farmers to have this to fill propane powered equipment. If you are filling motor vehicles for the road - not legal - just like using dyed diesel.

You can not get stuff to do this from a big box store - it is propane specific.

Unfortunately for you, if you just filled, you will have to wait to do this. Most (not all) tanks require it to be empty to install the valve.

FYI - If this is just for convenience of a few small bottles a year, it probably will take a very long time to recover the cost of the components for the wet leg.

Another idea for you - run a line from your large propane tank to your BBQ grill. That is what we did at my Dad's house.

Just looked on the net and seen what maybe your talking about, I will contact the Propane dealer to see if they can help me out BIL said that years ago he had the setup and didnt bother with it when he needed a new tank. Wonder if they can drain the tank, put it in and refill cause it last FOREVER with us we dont use that much and the tank is pretty big.

Thanks for the info
