also fuel mileage seems terrible if that helps at all

If you talk to Al or Piers at PDR they will tell you.....

GSK and #10 plate.

I don't run a #10 plate, but the GSK did wonders for the driveability of my 97 auto.

My 97 is much better now. I put on a 4 k gsk, kn air charger, ground my plate to between a #5 and 6 and set my timing to 16. And what a differnce

when you say its a dog does that mean just generally not a hot rod or does it mean you cant get over 60mph towing a TT. If its really bad towing then check fuel pressure first for possible over flow valve trouble.

to deezul 1 your right can not get over 55-60 pulling 10000 5er . up even the smallest grades power dropped drastically

running empty not too bad now how to check overflow valve should be my next question thanks

Dad's 95 (160hp) is a DAWG too--when it comes to Cummins power. It pulls, but it won't run down the highway like Mom's or mine.

I'll have to learn all this 12V stuff when I start BOMBING it. Not going too far with it until he is ready for a transmission.

Lemme see now there's a plate, a wheel, governor, pump timing, what else?

It sounds just like what mine did and it was the overflow valve. Remove the valve and stretch the spring to. 550 and reinstall and see if it solves the problem. If so the contact Piers as he has the best prices on Bosch overflow valves. Fuel pressure will be low if the valve is bad. Mine was 5 lbs and after the valve, it went to 24lbs and it ran great. If you need more info on how to do the valve PM me.

Wally:

I don't tow that often, but just did some power upgrades on my 96 3500 and I'm very happy with them. I went with a TST #8 plate, held off on the GSK, put in a AFC spring kit, and had the pump timed. According to TST, the #8 is about as far as your should go without a transmission upgrade. And they told me the governor spring kit doesn't work so well with a #8, so I held off on it. The added power is great, and I'm particularly happy with the throttle response at highway speeds. If you were running a 5 speed, I think the #10 and the GSK would be the way to go, but TST felt I'd be dancing near the fire with that one with the stock auto transmission. Hope this helps.
