Out of a simple desire to meet and talk Diesel with others who share this interest (passion?), a great meeting of TDR members, and current and future Diesel Ram owners came to be in Tulsa on Saturday, January 29th. Although the weather was far from cooperative, we had 13 Diesel Rams show up from seven (SEVEN!!!) states to participate. There were first generation, second generation 12-valve and second generation 24-valve Rams. Coming in from New Mexico, Arkansas, Texas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma and our most distant traveler, Chip Fisher of Blue Chip Diesel Performance in New Hampshire, we shared the cold, a great lunch, dozens of door prizes and a whole lot of knowledge, experience and camaraderie.
The dealer I bought my Dodge from, Melton Sales in Claremore, OK, Southern Plains Cummins of Tulsa, Rob Spading of the TDR and Eric Lantz who makes a great TDR receiver cover (look in the TDR to see Sam Memmolo’s on his Ram, Midnight) all donated prizes for those who made it to this gathering. We had so many great things to give away that we had to put the door prize tickets back in the bag three times!
The personal appearances of Dennis Ferguson (Branch Manager) and Don Kallenberger (Parts Team Leader) of Southern Plains Cummins, and of course, Chip Fisher of Blue Chip Diesel, gave us the opportunity to pick the brains of some of the most experienced and knowledgeable people in America! And, of course, many of the folks in attendance had a lot of their own valuable experiences to share.
Our Dodges, lined up on one of Tulsa’s primary streets and proudly displaying a couple huge flags donated to us by Larry Melton of Melton Sales (see the TDR links to Melton’s) made quite a sight! More than a few people passing by had to stop and see what was going on. Something about those Cummins-powered Rams just seems to scream for attention, huh?
We dealt with the cold for several hours talking about and showing our Rams to each other. Having started (unofficially) in the cold at 11:30AM, some of the, uh, significant others had braved as much cold as they could, so we all said farewell to each other a little after 3:30PM.
So you guys who’ve thought about getting together with a fine group of like-minded individuals, all I can say is, DO IT! There are a lot of great Diesel Ram owners out there who would just love to meet with others. All it takes is someone to say, “Hey, let’s get together in Tulsa on the 29th and see what happens…”
My greatest appreciation to all of the great folks who joined us yesterday, the organizations who added a little special something by donating all those great door prizes, and especially to the TDR who REALLY made all this possible.
Thanks from us all!!!!!!!!!!
