How many converters have you fried from having the somewhat 'loose' fluid coupling and locking it up in 2nd? Seriously... No flames intended.

Matt

Matt, this is my second season with my Suncoast and haven't had any problems. My Pro-loc converter is handling everything I do to it on the track or Hwy. I'm really happy w/ that package (awesome performance)

Loose fluid coupling and high HP/torque usually spells disaster for torque converter clutches... sounds like you've found one that holds up.

I'm also running a loose converter, and after I don't know how many hundreds of passes down the track, daily driving, donuts, burnouts, etc, no problems whatsoever! :D Hoss is right, some trucks do have all the fun, and mine's one of them! ;)

BTW Hoss, your truck is hauling butt these days! I didn't realize you were able to launch with that much boost; that explains the funny squealing sound coming from your tires, eh? Oo.

We've come a long way in the past few years... that's why I'm surprised that these converters are lasting they way they are. A couple of years ago - you'd be playing with fire with a loose converter...

If'n I had two extra tires to spin like you do I could leave with even more boost but my tires are mad at me as it is

That is a lot of the reason my 60ft times are lower than most. I need more traction :{

Hoping to not make myself look stupid here, but HOSS are there any type of "traction bars" on the Red Rocket?

I have a friend here in TN that has a pulling truck that he's always playing with. Well he bought and installed a set of Rob Thomas traction bars, and then was very much #@$%! when he couldn't build boost and spin the tires acting like the fool he was acustomed to anymore. :-laf

Now the truck in question is NO WHERE NEAR the Red Rocket's level of power by ANY means, I just thought I would add my $. 02 since you said you were looking for traction. ;)

Yes it has traction bars similar to Cal Track bars only huge. There is a lot more work planner for this winter.

Me and Bill in the finals of the heads up racing!!!!!!

He cleaned my clock but I am a lot closer now than the begining of the season.

I ended up with second place in the head to head class :D

Thanks to Tom Triebel for the great picture!!!!!!!!

Hoss, I'm not sure how your lauching however, I 'm spooling up around 72 lbs, locking out my transmission then, nudging into the staging lights waiting for the green. That truck pulls harder then my dentist removing four of my five abscessed molars :--)

Speaking of pulling harder than your dentist

Those new parts of yours showed up at my house yesterday. I have them in the refridgerator waiting for you to come pick them up. If they work as planned you should really HEAT UP your launches even more

I bet they're hotter then a two dollar pistol.

Anybody have the right codec to watch that video. I just spent a good bit of time searching for one, but couldn't find one.

Thanks,

Merrick

Do a search for something called 'VLC Media Player'... it's put out by VideoLAN. It was a free download last time I checked.

I have yet to be able to stump it as far as it not being able to play a video file. It works great for video-CD's too...

Matt

LEggers,

Thanks, That got it. Neat program too.

That Ford sure resembles a truck owned by a Person of the name of Richard Madsen. Maybe?

If his truck has a cummins in it I am sure its the truck. NOT SURE THOUGH. Here is a little video of that truck doing a good launch and a boot pop off. :--)

This truck is going to be fun to see when he makes a full pass. This was on the same day as HOSS run.

Yep :D

Richard made it up for the whole 3 day event. He got high horsepower on Piers dyno 803 if I remember right.

he had a few problems on the track :( that truck is wild to watch run

LEggers,

I would dare say that COULD be him, but I thought he was loosing the lift, along with some other things.

I'm very familiar with what happened on that pass. Motor torques up, and when either 2nd gear goes in, or TCC lockup, either some piping can bump into something pulling the boots off, or, the sudden increase in boost from the RPM drop, and POP, the boots let loose.

There's some tricks involved there that will keep any boot from popping off.

He sure launched hard though.

Merrick

EDIT: Watching that video too many times, and typing too slow, HOSS get's me with his better PRT (Post Replying Time)

Thanks HOSS for filling in this is your thread after all. MCummings I have many people in this world to meet still. HOSS just happens to stick out in a crowd and he will be one I will never forget.

I never did get to meet Richard but I loved his truck.
