This afternoon I broke out the lawnmower and cranked it up so I could give the lawn its first trim for 2003. As I motored through the grass I reflected back on what a miserable winter it has been around here this year.
For starters it got mighty cold a couple of nights. All the way down to a brain-freezing 11 degrees not once, but twice, smashing record lows! We endured many a cold rainy day. It was so cold it actually spread a fine dusting of snow one morning!
Competitive youth outdoor soccer just wrapped up the Winter season last weekend. Holy cow when the wind blew it made your teeth chatter, especially watching the players and referees wearing shorts the whole time. Those guys were nuts! Calm days were fine, but when it’s 50 degrees and blowing 30mph, it chills you to the bone!
Golf in December and January wasn’t for the faint of heart either. Same deal with the wind and rain. It was amazing to see some of those diehards out on the course in all types of weather! But not me! I was smarter than that and avoided the wind and the rain, but you don’t have all afternoon to chase down those lost balls. It gets dark well before dinner
Yeah it was rough all right, often having to bundle up with hat and gloves whenever you wanted to go out for golf, soccer games, bike rides, walks in the park, to wash & wax the truck, or whatever. It was one of those winters where you were better off staying indoors by a nice toasy fire. It only got into the 60s a handfull of times all winter :{
Yeah, winters up north can certainly be miserable some years. I think I’ll spend the next one down in Florida
