When it rains... it pours bad luck.
First off, I've had overdrive problems and by cleaning all the transmission connectors it worked good up until last friday. After work I was heading out of town for the weekend and about 30 miles away from work the transmission kept shifting in and out of overdrive. I pull over and reclean the contacts with no luck. I was determined to press on knowing it would be a miserable drive. As the sun was setting I switched on my headlights. POOF, no dash lights. I stop and notice that I don't have tail/running lights. With the driver door open I put a leg inside and stepped on the brake peddle. No glow from the backend. Great
No choice now but to turn around and head back home. I'm now racing the setting sun. As luck had it, the sun won. I apply the hazard flashers and proceed at a slow pace. Two minutes later... POOF no hazard flashers. I pull over. Luck did have it that my motorcycle was in the bed. I used it's hazard flashers to get me the remaining few miles back home. The night was shot and a few beers helped to ease the pain.
Next day... luck had it that a cold front moved in over night and the temps were below freezing
I knew I could use hand signals during daylight and make it to my destination 5 hours away, but the O/D had to be addressed. 45 minutes later and with frozen fingers I had it monkey rigged to a toggle in the cab. I made my destination and called it a day.
The following day I had the truck in a heated garage and was looking forward to fixing the electrical gremlims. 2 hours later, 2 chaffed wires were found in the rear harness and repaired. Everthing worked and I was one happy man looking to have a relaxing trip back the next morn.
Morning came, I had my coffee and packed the truck and a luch box. No more than 15 miles later I come upon a stop sign and find that the truck will not idle down. In fact, she's reving wide open. Pucker factor went to 10 and the brakes got a dandy workout. I turn the key off and coast to the side of the road. truck is still idleing but at a normal rpm
I pop the hood and use the manual shut off. I check all the linkage and then pull off the afc housing. The fueling pin will not retract. I spray some PB Blaster in there and work it in with a screwdriver. Everytime it is out it will not snap back in it has to be forced.
Well... after 2 hours of fiddle farting to no avail, I fire it up and drop it in gear. WhooHoo... I'm off like a rocket (to bad it's broke) and manage to get back to the garage with a heavy dose of smelly brakes. Looks like it's time for a new IP.
Sorry for the long post I had to vent. And all this at the Holiday season.
