Ok,

I have been doing some thinking regarding the use of an Oil Bypass system. And would like ya'lls pro's and con's of the idea. What brands do you use and why, also warranty issues. Pics would be nice too.

The local Cummins shop said that "few" run the bypass setups and that if you change the oil regularly its not necessary. Hmmm.

I read that the switch over to ULSD may cause some "deposits" in fuel systems to become dislodged due to cleaning agents. Is this true? I recently got the new 7 micron fuel filter and put it in. It is supposed to be the one that the 2007 and later Cummins will come with. DC's STAR said it was backwards compatible on the CR engines. So, any advice on auxillary filtration setups? My truck is stock and will most likely stay that way as far as engine mods go, so filtration is my only concern.

Thanks in advance.

I long ago discovered that various diesel mechanics have wide variations in personal opinions just like the rest of us - they don't all buy the same oil, or tires, or use the same lubes at all points in their own trucks...

In other words, outside their IMMEDIATE area of expertise, their opinions vary just as ours do.

On my '02 truck, I use a pair of Frantz sub-micron filters - one for the oil, and one for the fuel:

Not for everyone I suppose - but works for me! ;) :D

Hey Gary, I have read about the Franz and like the idea of it. I have a question, does your oil stay golden or turn black immediately like most diesels. Not that it matters, just curious. I guess the black is just suspended soot. I am curious, because I have had several diesels and only in one (my John Deere 2150 farm tractor) that the oil stay golden, like a gasoline engine for quite a long time after I change it. I have the amsoil spin-on bypass on my

87 6. 9 and it also is immediately black also. Just curious as to why my JD stays gold, and have read on here or another site of a member that said his CTD stayed honey colored.
