I know that there is alot of argument on pros and cons of K&N filters. I don't want to get into that. I currently use a K&N replacement filter in the stock air box which is probably not a good thing. Anyway, since I added the TST #5 plate, my filterminder is sucking down to at least halfway even right after cleaning. I assume this means that I should get a less restrictive air filtration system. I don't want to spend a ton a of $$. Any suggestions?

I switched to an AFE filter, go with the stage one or two. they work and look great and you can really hear the turdo spoil up and it will also add a little more power.

STAY AWAY FROM K&N

What Firehunter said :)

Another suggestion is the BHAF (big honkin' air filter) which is a paper element allowing considerably more flow than what the stock airbox gives you.

DItto's Firehunter.

I have the AFE stage II with a metal filter enclosure and "torque tube". I am very happy with it. Sounds great.

scotty II vs AFE Stage 2

Okay,

so far it looks like its Scotty vs AFE. The Scotty is much cheaper than the AFE stage 2. but you have cut that hole in the cowl. I am not totally opposed to this, but I don't want to do it unless it definitely is a better system. Does anyone have experience with both? Does the scotty flow better than the AFE? From what I can tell, both are cleanable/reusable, is this correct? Also, I am assuming that if I get more air flow than the stock box, the turbo will spool up faster and I would have less smoke on acceleration. Is this true as well? Thanks for everyone's input.

Look at the AFE #40044 without the outside housing. There are a bunch of us using this and it works great and is about $50/$60. It really flows good as my smoke was cut down a bunch. If you go with this look at where it rests on the AC line and place a piece of rubber hose over the line to prevent wear.

Piers has them.

So then the AFE #40044 would suck in air from the engine compartment? Does anyone have a photo of this setup? If it works just as good and is that cheap, it looks like a good idea to me.

thanks

I had the BHAF before the AFE and the improvement in air flow was very noticable. I installed a remote thermometer probe on the side of my air cleaner as close to the turbo as possible and the temps there compared to ambient temps averaged about 15 deg higher except when pulling a long grade with a trailer. In a racing situation the temps from the turbo didnt rise fast enough to matter as by that time you were already done racing.
