Trying to figure out what everyone is talking about. So far, I believe I understand they go in the pump.

Someone school me on this please, I can't find anything with the search button.

They're like a little check valve on top of your pump (under the splined connector where the injector lines come out. They keep the lines full between injections so delivery is more precise. The numbers refer to the sizes:

131's are the lower flowing stock ones from the 160/175 hp

181's (I think) were on the 215hp pump and the

191's are oversize

Then cut DVs flow even more. With more flow, you get more power. Also more smoke and heat. (EGTs)

Gotcha so far.

So what do people get out of putting 181's in the smaller pumps? Is it even worth it as one of the first things to do to turn up the power or is it later on down the line when you get to the knick-pickin?

On a 12 valve,a 180 hp pump already has 181 valves. A plate, injectors and a torque converter will give you the best performance increase unless it is the '94-'95 vintage, then an RPM kit and delivery valves make things happen. Gauges first!

You probably have 131s in it. I don't think they started with the 181s until 96 or 97. But remember, 181s are considered stock for 180 and 215 pumps. Larger delivery valves can sometimes make your turbo spool up quicker. There are a lot of people that say larger delivery valves give you 0 horsepower gain, but just makes it kick in sooner. And there are others that swear it will give you horsepower. Depending on your smoke that you want to put out, light (181s), mild (191s), more aggressive (191s). There are also others called 022s and laser cut, and both are larger than 191s.

Maybe I can find some 181's cheap from somebody who upgraded. I don't want too much smoke, but I think a little bigger DVs might feed the 370s a little better. I have a slight stumble at lower RPMs.

Wasn't there a 151 D-Valve also? I'm not sure but I was under the impression that the 175 pumps had a different D-Valve than the 160's.

I have installed a set of 181's on a 1995 160 pump. It had 131's in it to start with. It was a nice mild upgrade but you might want to PM TDR member "Breck" to get his opinion to see if it was worth it or not.

chrleb1,

What do you mean by "mild" 191's and "more argessive" 191's. They are the same?

sorry, that was a typo. I was typing fast than i was thinking. I meant to put 022s in the aggresive spot.

Sorry to but in,,,,,, but I have a 95 160hp auto and I just put in a set of 370's, but didn't change the DV'S. I have a couple of new things going on now. first it likes to run real rough around 1100 to 1300 rpm and I lost about 3-4 mpg. would the DV'S make an improvement here. I also have stock 4:10 gears.
