I am going to buy guages for oil & water temp, but don't know what range to buy (140-320 degrees, or 100-240, or 140-280) so can anyone out there tell me what the normal and the high temps (under load) are for oil, water, and manual trans?

Thanks in advance for your replies!

Temp gauges

Well Scott, since no one else has replied, I will try to help you. Coolant temperature should not go over 265 deg. this is the point when it will boil over:(, so the 140-280deg. should work, although would prefer a gauge that goes down to 100deg.

In our engines the oil is cooled by the coolant, so that means it must be at at higher temp than the coolant, so would suggest the 140-320deg.

The manual trany temp is not something that I have ever looked at before. Under normal circumstances I would not expect it to get very hot. Possibly if you can get the use of an laser type thermometer:cool: you could determine this for yourself under different driving conditions.

Hope this helps,

Neil:)

Oil Temp

Hey Scott, origionally I was going to put my temp gauge in the Getrag, however I never found a really easy place to put the sender. Also I didn't really feel like messing with it, so I got to lookin' around under the hood and saw a plug on top of the oil filter bracket, and just hooked up my gauge there. I have an Isspro gauge, 100*-280*. Runnin' around town, It'll stay around 160*. 70+ mph on the highway, high outside temp, Its seen around 200*. Running Amsoil 15w-40 synthetic.

Who knows, maybe some rainy day I'll hook up a gauge on my Getrag.

Good Luck Scott, hope this helps!

I have a temp. gauge on my Getrag, and have yet see it pass 140 degrees. I also would like to know what the normal operating temp is for a Getrag. I would maybe suggest a 100 /240 degree gauge(mine is a S. W. 140-320 degree range).
