You just take the back rail and the bows off and roll it up to the front and secure with Velcro straps.

Those need to roll up all the way or they will tear up flopping around. I've got one on my 1998 1500 SLT. Its held up ok over the years.

Dean,

Terrain, climate, and personel driving habits..... all good points, but you left out a "biggie"... . rolling resistance. ie 2wd vs 4wd and srw vs drw. I'll bet that if you had a 2wd srw with 3:73 gears your milage would be way different than what you get with your 4wd drw with 4:10 gears. Would that be weird?

Absolutely, I am sure that I would get 3-4 mpg more if I had a truck like you describe. Would I trade? Nope;) I like the Great Silver Beast just the way she is:D .

curatchko, or others, how much do you credit the cover for better mileage? what type cover are you using? thanks, doc

No credit to the cover. I don't believe that with a 6 foot bed that the air is getting in front of the tailgate... . significantly anyways.

I had a really nice topper on my 99 with a 6 foot bed and I also didn't gain any mpg with it either... . Though I had hoped I would gain.

So, based on 2 trucks, I'd say there's no benefit.

Chris

In my experience there also has been no benefit with the louvered tailgate other then being more convenient to hook/unhook the fiver and better visability especially in the campgrounds when there are small kids around on bikes, ect:( .
