2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission What are the differences in 2nd Gens other than engine?

I have looked around here and there...

Is there a site or does someone have it compiled somewhere.

We all know the engine differences and the things to watch out for like "53" blocks and such.

What about other things, like brakes etc.

Were the brakes all the same size? Is the steering different?

Were any year NV4500's better built.

Frames all the same?

The 2001. 5's and up had disks brakes on the rear.

I figure if I'm wondering that others may be too.

As far as I know brakes are the same until the disk breaks were introduced. There was some change in the drums in '00 that allows for the newer aluminum wheels to fit but I don't know if any internals were changed. Chevy wheel cylinders seem to be the best bomb in this department.

The steering is only different in 98 and 99 when Dodge used the T-style setup vs. the Y-style. Many people convert to the T-style when the parts need replaced

Interiors changed in 98, and the quad cab was offered.

In 01 the automatics began getting Hy35 turbos a opposed to the hx35s found on the rest of the 2nd gens.

Not sure on the NV4500s. The shift tower changed in 98 or 99. They all have the ability to lose the 5th gear nut. But the HOs get the NV5600 in '00.

The 02 trucks did not come with a CAD front axle and there was no sound deadening on the hood. Their intercooler was also not painted black like previous years.

The intercoolers changed slightly on the 24vs, but not enough to make it a great bomb for 12v's.

The 46rh was offered on the 94 trucks (maybe 95 too?) before it was replaced by the 46re.

The six-speed was put into a few 99's and 00's, but the 6-speed 00 is NOT usually an HO. Those early sixers have a smaller input shaft (1. 25 vs 1. 375 I think. ) The rear brake change in drums is a wider drum and shoe, not sure exactly when, but you can machine enough off the earlier drum for factory alloys to fit.



Some sensors changed on the VP trucks in 01 or 01. 5.



The auto in a 95 is different-- RH instead of RE I think. Difference in wiring the lockup switch. Yeah, what you said, after review.



No frame difference as far as I know.

Late 2001's got rear disc brakes, so we call them 2001. 5's, which is best of breed of the 2nd Gens. Most or all still have the CAD on the front axle. SNOKING

When I blew an axle seal on my early 2000 I found it had '99 brakes. They were different. Had to exchange the parts for a '99. Problem solved.
