I have a comp on the way and the wire tap has got me a little nervous. My vp has less than 20k on it and has always had a good fuel supply to it. What are the odds that it will die as soon as I tap the wire? I bet this has been said before but with a stock turbo and stock exhaust I doubt I will spend much time on 5x5. I probably should have gotten injectors but I thought i got a heck of a deal on this comp, used, and the idea of in cab adjustability is very appealing.

who knows the odds? but with the phantom cover it will most likely save your pump warrenty (if it has any). it is good insurance just in case something does happen, because the wire tap with out a doubt will void all warrenty. if the pump has no warranty, dont waste the $80 for the cover (my opinion only). besides that, the comp will not strain the pump that much just normal driving. but you just never know and it is always better safe than sorry.

From everything that I have heard or read, once tapped the VP will likey die in less than an hour if it is going to. If it survives, then it will likely go a good long time afterward with the failure rate almost identical to an un-tapped VP. IMO, you have to roll the dice.

In my case, I tried like hell to break my VP in that first hour or so. It survived and I am happy with the performance gains.

Failure of VP-44's seems largely a crapshoot - and virtually impossible to predict.

Two things have seemingly been established by experimentation and various polls on the subject:

1. The more recent and revised VP-44's as installed on later year trucks fail just as often as the older, less "improved" ones did.

2. Pumps exposed to various power enhancers apparently also live/die at about the percentages as the unmodded ones...

YUP a crapshoot, regardless of what you do - or don't do...

Not what I was wantig to hear. I thought someone would make me feel better but it hasnt happened yet. I am not worried about getting a pump cover because the warranty is gone. rolld over 100k a couple weeks ago. my luck has never been that good. maybe i should just not tap the wire.

My sig shows my mods. The pump wire has been tapped since about 20,000. I have over 172,000 now on my original VP.

If you are worried, increase your fuel line to 3/8ths I. D. from the tank all the way to the VP and make sure you supply a steady 15 psi. This will help you a great deal, but the biggest help is to not abuse the potential power gain you have.

Your driving style is the key to the longetivity of the VP. I like to have what I call manuvering power when I drive. I don't race or show off, but I when I pass, I pass with authority. ;)
