What are the Tundra owners smoking?

Attention: TDR Forum Junkies
To the point: Click this link and check out the Front Page News story(ies) where we are tracking the introduction of the 2025 Ram HD trucks.

Thanks, TDR Staff

Cummins on oil webpage

I think I'll stick with the 5.9

There's a "Linkback" in that forum (at the bottom of the page) leading people to the TDR since one of their threads was referenced inside this forum... that's pretty slick!

On edit: I'm calling BS on that. 80mph up a decent grade with 15,000lb trailer and a gasoline powered Tundra? :-laf

They had a triple axle boat trailer with the boat attached on it at the Minneapolis Auto show. Not sure how much that boat weighed in at but I'm sure for legal reasons it's close to 11,000#'s or what ever their rating is.

Seriously, that little truck will not handle that boat in real world conditions.

I'm calling BS on this one. If that hill was any hill at all, my truck, with around 1000lbs of torque wouldn't have been able to keep 15k at 80. No to mention towing that much weight in overdrive that fast and the throttle required to keep it there is suicide for a transmission. Think I'll put those guys in the same catagory as powerjoke owners.

They are like Powerjoke owners. I have this friend who has a truck like this that is maybe 1. 5 years old(?) The truck, not the guy. He said they are very powerful and hold value better than any of the big three and they are built in the US:confused: Maybe so. He mentioned he will buy the new model (He has the $$ for sure) and mentioned;

"The new trucks will have tons more power than any of the competition and will blow them all out of the water"

I guess he is correct after all... ... ... . ?

I agree with most everyone in that toyotas hold their value well, but I don't think I'd spend that much coin on a gasser. Maybe if I wanted a little truck that I knew would probably last forever, but I prefer a REAL fullsize. The old toys last forever though, seen some with almost 3-400K on them. Though, the bodies are almost rusted away, but that little 4 banger is still going!

15k is not really that heavy... heck my trailer weights 6700 before you put anything on it :-laf whats wierd is 30k gross feels like 24 i have not figured that one out yet.

tq and gearing is everything and the new tundra seems to be set up well

BS, plain and simple! There is even one guy with pics of a trailer claiming gross weight on a scale of 19300 lbs. Funny thing is he only shows pics of the truck hooked up sitting in a parking lot and none actually driving! Plus another guy that claims to have had 4600 lbs of rock in his bed, which is interesting since mine holds 3300 lbs (small 1"-2" gravel) level with the side rails!

I drove a 5. 7 liter Tundra 4-door 4x4 last week. It's real fast . At least for me. It reminded me of the old 68 SS 396 chevy I had. The handling was rock solid and would stop real quick. When it gets ready to shift gears under full throttle the engine throttles down a bit while shifting . It will be interesting to see if the Toyota power will be as dependable as the old 4-bangers.

Wife is looking for a small 4-door pickup to pull her Rincon hunting and have room to haul my beer home.

I tried my best to put her in an 07 Ram 24-valve. She settled on a Black Ridgeline to pull her black Rincon on her black trailer. Looks good at least.

Personally, I can't see much difference between an overloaded Tundra - or an overloaded Dodge, and a little reading HERE in our own Towing/Hauling forum will certainly reveal our own crowd of GCWR abusers - and they too seem proud of their "accomplishments"! ;)

Ridgeline? the 1/2 ton with ratings of a 1/4 ton.

Maybe it was a "White Dwarf Star. " :-laf That "rock" would be dense. :D

I totally agree. BS or not there is no shortage of "people" (word used to avoid being edited) on here bragging about overloading their Dodge. All they ever say is how well the engine handled it. Ability to control in an emergency and stopping are usually distant concerns. Sure you can tow 40,000 with a dodge, then again you can also slam your hand in the truck door. Neither of which are a good idea.

It doesn't matter what your driving, truck owners think people pulling a boat with a car are ignorant, as do semi drivers at pickups pulling trailers, as do railroad engineers at semi drivers. "look at that weak little thing" people are funny. :-laf

LOL its amazes me on how people can so narrow minded, and in that thread there we a lot of them. will it move it? ya up a hill at 80? don't think so but on thing i have knowticed and no one ever has pointed it out that i have seen, what make it a 1/2 ton truck besides what toyota calls it, kinda like the new f150. heck dodge can just rebadge my 3500 SRW and call it a half ton and it will no doubt have the highest payload and towing capacity in its class. but it great that companys are over building thier trucks, alot of the new tundra is over kill for a "1/2 ton" and in some ares toyota is known for bilding strong stuff. but to handle 10k or more on the road at highway speeds you need your truck to be solid and have the wieght to help control the load expecialy if its a tow behind, on bad gust of wind and hang on. my old f450 had issuse handling a 24ft enclosed trailer at time becaue the bad loading of the trailer and the same with a 2wd dodge 2500 with a hemi.

I will say one thing Toytota did that was smart, and that's build a HD 1500 that is at least close to 2500 specs (brakes, rear end, ... )... . this way thay only have 1 version of the truck and they can introduce a 2500 model with diesel on the same platform and gain economically... . smart business and a reason they're much more profitable than the US Big 3... . granted it helps that they can and do sell their stuff at a premium price..... dodge makes the 1500 mega cab based off of the 2500 chassis... . they should be touting it's HD features for a 1500 sieres trucks... (brakes, rear end, frame,... )

I've already tried to talk my wife into trading her 06 Sequoia in for the new one when it comes out... . just so i can get the 381hp/401tq motor... . and she made me proud and told me she wants a diesel suv that can blow black smoke like my truck! :) ..... Smarty for a VW Torage anyone! :)
