Just installed gauges on the 01. 5 ETH and am questioning the accuracy of the pyrometer.

The truck is 100% stock for fueling. Only change is a BHAF with a heat shield. It still has the stock exhaust with factory muffler.

At close to sea level and about 80* temps i'm seeing about 250 at idle, 650 cruising @ 65, 1100 max (unloaded truck).

Even if i hold the truck back with the brakes so it can't accelerate past say 55 it won't go over 1150. Does that sound right for a stock ETH with BHAF?

It's been so long since i've followed what a stock truck should do i can't remeber. And my 02 isn't really an apples to apples comparison. :D

All experiences are appreciated.

Thanks,

Chris

running DDII's, K&N filter, 4 inch straightpipe and 30lbs of boost I can't get it past 1150F either. So with stock boost - 20lbs that may sound "normal" I think you have to run the engine up over 2500RPM to get the full fueling from a stock setup which will give you higher EGT's.

John,

Thanks for the reply. I remeber very similar numbers back when my 02 ETC had dd2's in it. Max of about 1100-1150.

I remember hearing about how H. 0. 's have pretty high egt' even stock, which is why i'm questioning the accuracy of this gauge.

Any one else???

Come on guys... 118 views and no one remembers what their stock H. O. had for egt's.

Thank you,

chris

EZ with BHAF, heatshield, 3 inch exhaust and Flowmaster muffler.

I can hit 1250* towing heavy and starting to lug uphill. Otherwise 1100 is tops. Your numbers sound right. You may lose another 50* or so with eliminating the stock muffler.

Don't know what my stock EGTs were. To see the EGTs start climbing, you need to be near lugging. Don't know if holding the brakes at 55 count.

Stock truck except for dealer-installed Jacobs exhaust brake would hit 1300 degF pre-turbo EGT when towing a heavy 5th wheel.

Rusty

Stock, my HO would hit 1250 to 1300 towing if I lugged a little in 6th. For the most part idle was 250-300 and cruising empty was 550- 600.

For the most part all is the same now with my truck. I run around with box off and with the injectors I have idle 300 cruising speed (70-75) 600-700, but if I hit the go pedal now... ... ... ... yikes I don't wanna talk about it... ...

Thanks everyone. That's just the info i needed. Sounds like the egt gauge is right where it should be.

Let the bombing begin. Oo.

hey chris, we know better. that truck wont stay stock for long :-laf

:D Yeah, i just put in a set of mach 1. 2's. Nothing like increasing the power and picking up a butt load of mileage to boot. They are some really sweet injectors for sure.

I'm trying to keep this one reasonable with the bombing thing. The 02 gets to have most of the fun.

Chris

Trying to convince Dodge / Cummins there is a problem with mine.

I can EASILY hit 1575+ (no joke I'm really serious) pulling the 5er

up hill in 5th gear.

I talked directly to Cummins and they said the MAX you should ever see

STOCK is 1300 and you should pull 900 - 1100 but not for an extened period of

time.

My turbo and exhaust manifold is kind of a gray metalic purple blue color.

(NOT good).

I get right at 250 idle, average 800+ empty @ 75.

On the hills empty I go over 1100 pretty easy!

So from what I have been able to find out from Cummins your

sounds ok.

Mine on the other hand..... We'll see when it goes up in smoke and a big

bang!

Pete.

Pete how much boost are you seeing?

On my 2000 stock, I could bury the pyro after i hit 2300rpm's

Max boost was 19 psi.

Added a 4" and could only reach 1500 degrees and picked up 1-2 psi of boost

BHAF didn't help anything

Comp box with boost elbow pushed boost to 38 psi max on 5x5 and will bury the pyro again.

If I run 1x5 (my normal) I get 30 psi and 1400 max

The 275's didn't seem to make much of a difference with anything.

The comp killed my clutch :(

That's the bomb list for the 2000 (for now)

i knew there was more to the story. LOL. are you coming to fall brawl this year? im planning on flying in for the show to visit with my PA diesel heads.

When my 02 ETH was stock and fully loaded in the mountains, I could lug the engine and keep my foot to the floor - egt's would never go above 1300. They seem to have these so well tuned from the factory... with my EZ I still never have to worry about egt. I love it.

JKeith

I'm seeing 20 /21 max boost when pulling.

6th gear up hill loaded I get 1200 max EGT pretty steady.

Now when I have to down shift into 5th the boost is 20

and the egts push 1575 in less then a minute.

Cummins said in that situation I should see a maximum of 1300 degF.

Well it sounds like the boost is right where it should be.

Maybe you got a bad pyro but I assume you already thought of that.

Do you hit 1500 or so within seconds or does it take awhile to get there?

I know mine would hit 1600 within like 15 seconds.

Hope you figure out whats going on.
