just paying my 9-11 respects

Anyone doing anything special for the anniversary date?

We're putting on a Motorcycle benefit ride around the Washington D. C. beltway and past the Pentagon tomorrow to raise funds for the Pentagon Victims Relief fund.

Last year we had 998 bikes and raised $20,000.

And just as we were passing the Pentagon last year, the radio news announced that we had begun the bombing of Afghanistan. What a coincidence, gave me the chills.

Goin on a similar run here in central Florida. My best friend since I was ten years old is now a firefighter. He'll be riding his Firefighter's special Electraglide.

If you work in any high visability places, just be aware that terrorists like to plan things on anniversaries... .

Keep an eye out, and be safe.

A article in our local newspaper said it has been asked of everybody (not sure of ST. or Nation) that at Noon on Sept. 11 you stop what you are doing and recite the Pledge Of Allegiance.

I am planning on doing this, as well as flying a 3x5 American Flag off of my the back of my truck all day. :D

911

Probably spend the day at home, I highly respect you guys who are doing benefits for the affected folks. I will try to be on alert for anything unusual and say a prayer asking that we and all our nations leaders will have enough strength and foresight to prevent something like this from ever happening again. bg

I'll be participating in a ceremony at the local school with other firefighters and police officers.

I was thrilled to meet a few NYC brothers when I was out there 3 weeks ago. I also met an especially great guy at the WTC site when I was there. He's a retired NYC FF who I visited with for over an hour at the site.

Same thing that I did a year ago on 9/11/2001. Going to work in NY. I will be praying for the people and their families lost. I will pray for no more to be lost and the lord's justice for those responsible.

It is important to continue. I have so much difficulty with this. To remember what happened honors those lost and adds to the enemies gain.

I will on an airplane flying east. Not gonna' let a number on a calender stop my life. Let us not give in on that day or "they" will have won. DO NOT make 9-11 a nat'l holiday either- we do not need commerce soaked 9-11 sales from Macy's down the road. Stand tall, stand proud. We may be down, but we're not out! -fjk

As it is my Birthday i will never be able to forget those that lost their lives on this day. We will continue on in rememberence of those who lost their lives as we know that they will not be forgotten. No matter where we are we will move forward so that terrorists where ever and who ever they are will know they can not stop freedom.

I'll be taking the day from work to go to the schools for some demonstrations and discussions with the school kids about what happened and what role the Fire / Rescue / Police played that day.

Human nature?

I guess it is human nature to cling to tragedy. We have this need to relive it over and over again. The media is haveing a field day, and people are going to make this into something that the people who lived this will have to live through over and over again! It saddens me.

It also makes us a giant target for every kook to come out of the woodwork on 9/11..... A silent prayer is all that is needed.

I go to a Catholic School and we are going to have Mass and prayer service all morning so for lunch me and a friend are going to go have a beer and smoke a clove. Im sure ill need it. So many emotions to sort through its insane.

I agree. But this effort did look worthy.

Are you really that dense to think that people want to relive what happened last year?! Where do you get the nerve to make such a statement?! Recognizing the anniversary of the attack on the WTC is no different than recognizing December 7th or acknowledging the OKC Bombing. People don't want to relive these events. But they take time to remember what happened and to let the widows, widowers, friends, and families of those left behind that we aren't going to forget what happended. We remember because we want to show those that were directly affected that they have our sympathies and support. It's amazing that after such a monumentous event, such as that was, that you can belittle it in such an efficient manner as you did.

People need each other's support to heal. How else do you think prayers are answered? Magic?

I Gave Blood today

It was the least I could do. I would have done it a year ago, but I was stuck in Venezuela with no ride home.

I don't want to relive the events of a year ago, however I dam sure don't want to forget. Just like we should never forget Pearl Harbor, the Murrah building, and any other time that Americans were attacked by cowards.
