I just blew my third head gasket on my '99 looking into a multi layer head gasket, anybody have any input on it? I'm also putting in studs to help hold it down.
 
the third gens use a multi-layer gasket and they seem to be able to hold more boost even with the stock bolts. Last I have heard Piers is running a stock gasket with studs on his 3rd gen @ 650-700hp.
 
The MLS gaskets age great.



However the head and block must be perfectly flat in order for them to do their job correctly.



If you've blown three gaskets then you really should look at the head and block and make sure that they are flat.



The block can be out a little and it be okay. But if the head also has a bow in it then when you try to clamp it down you will have a gap between the two and you WILL blow gaskets.



I'm not saying that is you're problem but it seems quite likely. That or you've been abusing the gaskets a little ;)

Thanks for the input, my next question is has anybody tried on a 2nd generation 24 valve? or anyone know if it would work? it is almost a perfect match to my stock gasket
