thanks. . I called the dealership and they asked me if I wanted V-line. I was explained this is the economy line that the dealer would use for replacements. Any recommendations?
My 04 went 160K miles before the first brake pad change... that truck now has 250K... .
My 05 was inspected last week with 80K miles and the pads are still close to 60%...
Have you done this inspection yourself or is your friendly tire/brake store telling you your ready.....
They told my daughter she was ready when the pads on her Tahoe were at 60% or so... . Of course once confronted with the facts they admitted it might have been a mistake... .
These trucks are not hard on BRAKES. In fact its just the opposite. Love those rumours!Nothing wrong with the value line Mopar pads. I sold zillions of these with nary a complaint or any noticeable difference in mileage or performance.
The original brakes on my 2004 were still in great shape when I sold it at 75,000 miles. My new 2008 front pads caused rust stains on the wheels, I was using Neverdull every other week. I switched to EBC pads, they leave a black residue that wipes off with a damp cloth. Stopping power seems about the same as the original pads.
I got the wagner 60 dollar set from Oriely. Sweak like a mother!!! (40K) Bad rear wheel seal ate front pass pades) So then turned rotors, fixed for one week!!! Got new pads. (free lifetime). even did anti squal!! Ben sqeking since day 3!!! It drives me nuts!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!
Is there any specs on what the pads should be. It was the inspection center that said I had 50% left on the pads. I looked into some specs and it seems cars and trucks have different minium specs for pads. I only have 65K on the truck... not sure if the breaks are original or not.
What do you all think of Raybestos severe duty? I have a local shop that only does deisels and that is what the recommend. I am going to get the OEM pads but just want your opinion.
Use the hand them back to customers or throw them in the trash same as the others after market pads. All in all the oe seem to work the best no matter what year or make vehicle.

No grinding, squeaking, squealing. If you want a vehicle to stop and sound like new oe is the way to go. If you don't mind in certain weather conditions grinding crunching noises or intermittent squeak or squeal plus altering the distances it stops from the charts in the owners manual and not always for the better then go after market. Oh and rotor wear and not usually for the better either. I spent 30 years in auto service. Been taking off after market pads for some of the above reasons I would say weekly for complaints and noise. Not every after market set but a darn lot of them and some the vehicles exhibited some of the above issues but no customer complaints. We just noticed on test drives.
EBC has pads from OE Coefficient of friction to more aggressive, of course with a high friction pad there will be faster rotor wear. But brakes are a safety item, and if you can make them stop faster and withstand higher temps with out more noise why not. Rotors are cheap.
If I ever have to do I panic stop it is nice to know that I can do 90-0 with no fade. Go take your oem and try to do that.
