I just put a Pioneer DEH6600 in my 03... wishing I would have spent just a few extra bucks and got the 7600 which plays MP3's. I see savinglots has the 7600 for about $20 less then what I paid for the 6600 at crutchfield, figures. Guess I'll have to spring for an MP3 compatible disc changer now heh. :-laf

Hope you didn't take that as an insult, wasn't meant to be. I may have just been looking at cheap plug kits in the past.

None taken!

I'll try and snag a pic of the dash in the next couple of days.

Eclipse

There is no reason to buy anything otyher than an ECLIPSE - they are the best you can buy - and spending anymore is simply foolish... ... .

I'm the fool he's selling the Pioneer to. (Gee thanks Mark for selling me stuff that you don't like) :p It's going in my 99 gasser since it doesn't have a CD player.

As for my Diesel I've had a Blaupunkt Austin in it for a few years and it's been okay for the $99 I paid for it. I'm going to go with another Blaupunkt I think for it soon something with a little more power and XM ready with the MP3.

I really like the MP3 option in the cheap sony player I have in my van. Works good and can carry more music than I can keep track of.

I've been tinkering with an FM/MP3 player for my motorcycle and it works pretty well. Headphones into an amplifier and then into speakers. Get radio and skip free cd quality music. I'll probably do that in my 1st gen seeing as the radio is shot and I've gotta put gauges somewhere.

That's not fair to the tweakers stealing stuff out of your car in the middle of the night, their habits rely on a conventional stereo to pawn.

If I could find a few set ups like like this, I might consider it, problem is, I would need to update 4 vehicles so I could use the player in them all. Not to mention the mrs. tends to want a radio when she drives without me. That would mean two portable setups.

I have an older Blaupunkt in mine... . not modern enough to use as a comparison... but it spent 3 years in my VW diesel P/U and has survived 3 more in my 91 CTD and still ticking.

So I can attest to it's ruggedness and quality.

Happy shopping.

i have always bought from crutchfield.com

they have all of my stereo info stored so if i need to upgrade/change/renew i just call them tell them what i am looking for they take care of it. They may not be the cheapest... but customer service is excellent and so are all of the neat little install kits they provide... .

i have a blau (head unit and amp) right now and it works great... priced right and it had the most usable power for the money. I have one set of blau speaker and they are inferior to the infinity (wont make that mistake again)

Your not a foof DB, and I would NEVER sell you something that was bad. You a friend of mine man, and I don't do that to friends! ;)

I just don't like the thing, and there's nothing wrong with it... ... so why not sell it and get something I like! :???:

As a matter of fact somebody just tuned it the other day when I had a keyless entry installed and it sounds better NOW than it EVER has! So I will make sure and write down the settings before removing the radio! ;)

I'm made my decision I'm going with a new Sony 7700 model. Oo.

I just had the Eclipse 3424 lnstalled, great sound, clean look (very important) and easy/simple features. Looked at the Alpines, had them in the past, hated the flashy display and bright buttons. MR

I just read an article this morning on the new radio standard the FCC is setting with HD Radio. Its supposed to be the equivalent of HDTV for audio. Article aslo referenced it as being a direct competition in quality to the satellite radios. It wasn't clear how advertisements would be handled, but it is supposed to be free. If the sound quality can match and ads can be cut down to XM or sirius, do you think the satelite radio's will survive other than for traveler's and rural low signal customers? Personally hearing Howard Stearn cursing and refer to his genitals is not why I bought I an XM system, it was for the sound quality HD radio is supposed to improve. Seems I may wait a bit before replacing my deck to see what comes of the new technology. ANyone have a deck compatible with this yet?

I have a kenwood excelon, and love it. has a remote, never thought i would need a remote in a vehicle, but actually use it all the time. You can set it to display song names when a cd is palying... looks great, sounds great, has never skipped... and it has been tested, I actually installed it at a rest stop about 100 miles west of fort worth... truck didnt have a working stereo when i bought it, couldnt handle the drive back to CA with no music. I had a kenwood cd player in my old 6. 9 furd too, never missed a beat in the 6 years i ran it... even sent the truck airborn once or twice.

Rockford Fosgate RFX9320 MP3 player with the optional 8 disk cd changer, two rockford amps and two 10" rockford subs. Stock infinite speakers in doors. Going to replace those with infinite Kappa series.

Not too happy with the Rockford cd player in the source unit or the changer. They skip a lot. I don't have a clue what I would go to next. My suggestion to anybody looking for new equipment is to go to stores like circuit city, good guys, or tweeter to play around with the models they have set up. That's the only way you can really get a good feel for what's out on the market.

Always bought Sony because my old ears can't tell the difference in the high priced ones. My latest one is direct fit in the dash and direct hook up to the harness, 10 CD Sony changer under the driver's seat. I usually buy at Circuit City out here on the west coast--don't know if they nation wide--they have low price guarantee.

I have a Pioneer in the Ram. Came in the truck when I bought it. It is fine. It is simple and doesn't have a bunch of junk I won't use. Would be nice to have disc changer or Sat. radio though, on long trips. :)

My sister had an Alpine in her Grand Am before she totalled it (fell asleep doing 70 on I-80). Nice unit.

stock unit

All you guys are swappin' out your stock units. Anyone have the stock unit (2002 compatible) that has cd in unit, AND the jack on the back for the CD changer unit? This is the unit that also has some type of satellite deal built in. I have a CD changer (dodge) that I harvested from my '00 before trading it in on my '02. The unit with only cassette tape on face with cd buttons will accept it too but i like having the single play cd on the face too. ;)
