I am running the Redline Shockproof heavy in the rear and Shockproof light in the front. I used to run synthetics in my drag car dif (dana 60) and got almost 3 years out of the ring and pinion (broken gears). I now have the shockproof heavy in it and 6 years with no breakage. After reading more about it, I decided this would be great stuff for the truck as well. It is compatible with the limited slip carrier also. I added no additional friction modifiers , no chattering, and the carrier still works. It has all been in the truck for about 1. 5 years now.

JVolpe, I run the same stuff in my axles as you do. Does yours have the factory limited slip diff? My limited slip really seems to suck after changing to the RP. I can't even get the truck to jump sideways in the rain while turning if I get on it. Yet, when I jack the truck up and turn one wheel, both wheels turn the same way, so I guess its doing something. I don't know if the RP is just to slick, or if it comes with to much friction modifier in it. I'm thinking about changing to the Redline stuff in my axles and transmission.

Front Diff... ... ... Mobile 1 75w90
Rear Diff... ... ... . Mobile 1 75w90
Gear Case... ... . Mobile 1 ATF
Engine... ... ... ... . Shell Rotella Synthetic 5w40
Auto Trans (47RH)... whatever ATF+ I can get at Walmart

That said; I have never heard of a failure due to using lessor brands of oil. Failures are usually caused by abuse (sled pulls, racing) or contamination (water, sand, anti freeze, etc... ).

My LSD works better with RP than with either the OE fluid or the Mobile 75w90 I used before...

FWIW, I burnt the fill of 75W90 Mobile 1 in my 11. 50AAM in under 25k... went in clear, came out brown and smelled burnt... and there was no towing on it. That might have just been my luck...

Mine seems to work fine with the RP. I will have to do some boosted burn outs and verify. But it seems to be the same as before the RP. It may be my imagination, but the whole drive train feels smoother when I changed to RP, not as much vibration or noise.

Initially it is smoother with less noise... but that will go away in a couple thousand miles... the noise (in my case coast gear whine) will return.
