Another blowout

We are looking to upgrade in the next few months and have been looking at fivers. I would like feed back on the KZ Escalade, the Newmar Cypress & Torrey Pine or any other "good units". Units like the Cypress are considerably lower priced than a Landmark, Torrey Pine etc. I would like your thoughts about the high priced units. Is the value for the dollar there? We are planning to full time for 10+ years and need a good trailer. we are thinking triple slides in the 35 t0 40 foot length. I want to stay with the dually for a tow unit as we do not want anything in the baby Freightliner size. TIA for any feedback.

Take a serious look at Travel Supreme there Rive Canyon is very impresive good quality unit. I am getting ready to order one, saw them at the rv show here in Hershey PA. They had a very good show special going, but I really liked the quality of craftmanship. Hardwood cabinets w/corian counter tops, dual pane windows arctic insulation, flourescent lighting and so on. web site is travelsupreme.com , oh yea I liked there better than Holiday Rambler , and Landmark .

Another vote for Travel Supreme. We have been fulltiming in a 36RLTSO Express since we bought it new in '99. I don't think they make the Express line any more, but I am sure whatever they replaced it with is good quality. We have no problems pulling ours with our dually. Watch your weights though, they get heavier when you live in them awhile. I weighed ours a few years ago when we pulled out of Yuma, and it weighed 16 or 17K. Have to dig out the weigh ticket to check for sure, but the stuff of daily life really adds up.
This has been a good trailer for us, and when we get ready to trade we will definitely look at another Travel Supreme. That being said however, we are planning on keeping this one for another 10 years or so.

Ours has kept us warm during winters in Colorado and Idaho. The coldest was a full week in Idaho where the HIGH for the week was 2 BELOW. No problems. Likewise, it kept us relatively cool and comfortable during a summer in Yuma and Phoenix.

Good luck... ... ... Steve

Good luck

I have a Newmar Kountry Star fifth wheel and it has been a good unit and have had virtually no problems for the five years I have owned it. As you probably know, Newmar makes three fifth wheels. Bottom to top they are Cypress, Torrey Pine and then Kountry Aire which is really expensive, really heavy and not suitable to tow with a 3500 truck. I am in their RV club and rumor has it that the Cypress and Torrey Pine will be renamed after this year and they will have either an Aire or Star in the names. Newmar is about 80% motorized with a number of very expensive motor homes and, rumor again, is that one of the powers that be in the company suggested they get out of the towable line but that did not happen at least this year. Unless a dealer-and who knows what they will do-would get the price of the Torrey Pine down pretty close to a Cypress I would not pay the extra money for the Torrey Pine. I see them as basically the same units structurally but with the Torrey Pine being "fancier". Just my opinion. I would not be reluctant to buy another Newmar product and they seem to have a lot of repeat customers. As you are aware, these fivers get awful heavy. Both Newmar and Travel Supreme are mentioned in TDR Issue 53 as manufacturers that G. R. Whale would not have an issue with quality. Good Luck on your search.

Slow Six,

I would take a long hard look at Mobile Suites. I have talked to a few owners and they love them. They have the highest sidewall, roof and floor "R" values in the industry. There are not many manufacturers that can boast about having R-13 in the sidewalls. Most Mobile Suites I have seen came very nicely equipped and are in the price range of Newmar. My next 5er will be a Mobile Suite. I believe TDR member RustyJC has one maybe he will jump in here with his . 02.

Have you looked at the Titaniums by Glendale? They are made in Canada and are four season 5th wheels.

Our's is a 2005 35' double slide, rear kitchen. We are actually going to put it up for sale, as we just are not able to travel like we wanted to when we bought it. It has been on two road trips, one from Colorado to Arkansas and one into the mountains in Colorado to go hunting. The rest of the time it has sat at a private lake where we have a summer membership. We figure that we could just get a travel trailer to park there and put the extra money into other things.

It's got a lot of upgrades, like huge air conditioner, oversized fridge and wood floors. We love it, but just need the extra cash more than the fancy trailer right now. It's like new.

Good luck with your search. If you have any questions about our's or newer Titaniums, feel free to PM us.
