Hello

I installed a set of the Putco Boss Boards on my 02 3500 QC, but unfortunately they are going back. I bought them based on the stainless construction and good looks. However, the mounting hardware was ridiculous, they can with the rear flaps drilled wrong, dented, and when my 200lb brother stepped on the bed side board it collapsed.

Can anybody recommend a solid set of steps, preferably ones that extend before and aft the dually wheels as well.

Thank you

Matt

Matt,

Here is a link to Dee Zee. Dee Zee You can click on the link to each type of product they make, and scroll down on that page till you see things like "step" or "short step". These are fairly sturdy when they are put on right. I've put allot on over the years for customers and one thing I always do is replace the "kit" 1/4" bolts with grade#8 bolts and use nylon lock nuts. Good Luck.

Westin Side bars I got through Pep Boys.

The black pads are pressed in. the area where the pads are, the tube is pushed in, not cut-out. there is 2 small holes where the plastic pads attach and cover the indent. the indent is done before the chroming so rust is minimized. I live in salt Lake City and this is almost 3 yrs old. the only rust is a litttle on the mounting end and that is it.

I've been wanting a pair of stout nerf bars myself, but haven't had much luck at all. I want something to replace my current crap aluminum running boards, but which will provide some side-impact protection. Something along the lines of Ruenel or Denver Offroad front bumper stout.

Nerf bars that secure to the body rather than frame appear to be quite common, but they'll be about worthless in a side-impact collision. About the only option I've decided I have is to have a set fabricated at a local shop. I haven't yet called around to see what kind of price I'll be looking at, but I would imagine it would certainly be more expensive than just ordering a set from one of the major vendors.

If anyone has gone the custom route, I would love to hear whatever comments you may have about it.

I have a set of Go Rhino's that I had Line-X sprayed on them. They are very strong I weigh 200 lbs. and can jump on them and rock the truck and no problems. they use the bolts that hold the body to the frame and thick drop down brackets.

They run from wheel well to wheel well making it easy to get in the bed. Kevin

I trust my truck accessory shop explicitly and the owner told me that Westin is the way to go. He will sell you anything you want, but when asked his advice, he's honest enough to tell you.

He said Westins bolt to the frame, not the body, and there's no drilling that might rust or weaken the sheet metal. 'Nuff said.

Waags

I like my WAAGs- I got them in flat black and than recently LIne-Xed them and they have been very sturdy and durable through a 30,000 mile first year of service. The Line-x did add a measure of non-skid protection which was a factor on the WAAGS- they use a recessed metal plate as a step for durability but it is more slip prone than rubber. The WAAGS also go all around to the dually fender so getting in to the bed is easier.

I put alot of thought in which set of steps to buy. I just bought a set of westin platnium series. They are stainless with chrome on top of that. Very sturdy, very easy to install. JMO. Paul
