I see a lot of people on here using the plates from www.tstproducts.com , but i also found a nice looking plate on www.drivetrain.com. the drivetrain.com plate advertises added fuel economy, while the tst does not, there is also a slight price difference, and the tst kit has a few extra parts to it. does anyone here have experience with the drivetrain.com plare? or would you all reccomend the tst plate? (note i am looking at the #6)

btw, i have a 1995 CTD 4X4 w/auto transmission ext cab long bed SLT

also some notes,

i drive this truck every day, and do some towing here or there, not much more than once a month, and i am running 33" tires and have the 3. ?? gear ratio if any of that matters

my truck also came with the prime-loc fuel filter relocation kit, which is pretty handy.

i have also taken out the silencer ring from my turbo.

i have just had this truck for a week, and i do like it, but am looking for some help. i am also new to this forum.

Thanks for any help

I think for people to give you some relavant advice, we need to know more about your truck, (transmission, year, etc) If you add a fuel plate, with stock exhaust and airbox, you won't be able to maximize your power. I think that most people would agree that one of the first things that you need to add to your truck is guages. Pyrometer and Boost are a must, transmission temp if you have an automatic. I hope this helps.

most of the info about my truck is in the last post, i do currently have a stock airbox and exhaust, but will be changing those in the future as well. as far as guages, can you give me a parts list for everything i need to do for guages (other than the pod) for the boost, pyro, and transmission temp? im not too picky, but i would like black face guages.

Thanks for any help

Check out www.summitracing.com they have all the autometer products. I have the "ultralite" guages, but since you want black face guages, they have lots of those as well. Autometer makes the pod as well, it comes in black, you can paint it to match your interior if you want. I have the 0 to 35 Lb boost guage, which will work fine for you, unless you want to do some serious "bombs" then you may want to get the 0-60 lb boost guage. Also www.autometer.com is another site, they have all the guages they sell on their website. There are many diesel web pages that will show you how to install the guages, check the "links" on the TDR website. Installing the pyrometer probe is subject to some debate, some install it pre-turbo (in the exhaust manifold) others install it post-turbo (in the exhaust downpipe) . I have mine in the manifold, but you can decide what works for you.

Do some research on what air systems you like, the search forum on this website is great, you'll find days of reading on just about everything you want to know!

Gauges First! The #6 is a nice plate, With the auto trans a 3 gsk is a big improvement also. If the trans is stock , start saving your pennys for an aftermarket Transmission. Mine stock did alright for a long time after the above bombs But bombing never stops.

If you read the TST site carefully you'll see that they will say that some users of a product have reported a fuel milage increase after installation of a specific product but they won't make across the board claims. Fuel milage is very much subject to a driver's use of a vehicle or of any aftermarket product. That being the case who can predict with certainty the milage result that every user will obtain?

I have the best plate set up. Its coming out soon. You really need to have guages first, but this is how it works. Its best to install a 0 plate or custum grind your plate a little past flush. Then install this product i built that hooks to the afc arm. Its built to limit rack travel of the afc, which in turn limmits the fuel rack travel. So in turn u have the amount of fuel u need to race, run on the dyno, tow, drive around town, whatever u're needs are. U set it in the cab and it takes about 5 to 10 seconds, while driving. Adust the afc arm for smoke, egt's what ever u want. Its pretty neet.

Consider the # 10 Plate

I also have a 95 W/auto and initially went with the # 6 TST. It worked great. But whatb works better is installing a 3K GSK along with the # 10 plate. Much better combo.

As far as fuel mileage, It is all in the drivers foot! I get better mileage loaded because I can stay in higher gears longer. I get worse mileage empty because I tend to drive faster. If my wife drives(EEK!!!) she seems to get better mileage period.

Mods

DSutton, How does the set up you have drive? I have been told what you have is what I need/want. I still would like more info. I drive empty 90% of the time, but also pull a 22 ft Prowler TT. Truck does everything I ask for, but in a ,well, boring fashion. This is my first diesel, so maybe I am unprepared for the low rpm style of power vs say a big block. My old 440 Power Wagon would cream this thing until it ran out of fuel. Your opinion/experience would be of interest. I don`t mind spending the $, just want to get it right. DK.

I got a noticable milage increase with my DTT trans and also by advanceing the timing. I can't seen a performance plate helping at all. it is just a fuel stop. And a perf one will not stop as soon.

Thanks for all the input. i took all of your advice, and ended up getting a 3 gauge piller set of boost, pyro, and trans, a AFE air filter, and the tst #6. these should keep me happy for about a year, then i'll look for some more stuff to play with, thanks for all the help.

also, reb. B, your kit sounds very interesting, let me know if you ever do anything mush with it... . i dont need it atm but could in the future, or i bet i have a friend that may want it.

Another answer...

I just moved my stock plate and rack up all the way.

The clutch would slip when I'd get on it hard so I moved both back about a hair. Get about 20 mpg empty hwy.

Adjust the star wheel to limit smoke and I'm a happy camper.
