Reese fifth wheel hitch question

Here is an article from trailer Life Magazine about a spaying system for the radiator but I think they are out of business. It should not be too hard to make a system like this.

Bidena's Desert SuperCooler offers a simple, yet effective approach to keeping your engine cool, even under the harshest towing conditions. A dash-mounted control unit periodically turns on the special Shurflo water pump, which dispenses a pre-measured amount of water through spray nozzles to the front of the engine's radiator. The company says this cooling spray increases the radiator's cooling power, and can drop engine temperature by more than 20 degrees F. The water pump run time can be adjusted from the dash control unit, allowing water flow to be tailored to your cooling requirements. An in-bed, 10-gallon water tank provides sufficient water reserve for extended trips, or water can be drawn from the trailer's freshwater tank through a hitch-mounted hose and fitting. A cab switch, a water tank from Northern Tool, microjet nozzels from Home Depot, and some tubeing.

I have a water temp gauge, IF I start getting concerned, switch on. Nothing fancy.

On the pattern I think I would get the totally adjustable ones so I could get the pattern I wanted. Pump pressure and air flow facing the radiator would determine how far the pattern went.

The only thing I am concerned about is the water overspray or getting too much water into the engine compartment and shorting out something.

rweis, I don't think getting the engine area wet should hurt anything, it would not be any different than driving in the rain at 70 mph. Most of that water will evaporate after hitting the hot radiator. Also I didn't know Home Depot carried the nozzles. Where in HD are the nozzles, I may try this system myself.

In the lawn irrigation section. I was looking at the microjet fixed irrigators. They come in different fractional and full gallons per minute. I was going to check with a local high school football team and see where they get the misters they have on fans at the players bench. Maybe better misting.

I ran the Arizona Mist multimedia little demo video. This seems pretty close to what I was thinking. They use a 120v pump however. Needs some more investigating for that part. Will continue looking, but close to a good idea.

I think the misting is probably the key.

I don't believe you have a problem. I live in the Mojave desert where the temp has been above the 100 and tow a boat that is approx. 9k with fuel and gear. I have towed up 8 deg grades for 9 miles at 65mph going from 1500ft to 8700 ft my temp went to just above 200deg and no higher the entire time. This is well within the safe operating limits for the cooling sys and motor
