first of all welcome to th TDR, you have one RARE truck there, a 98' 12v Quad cab is a rare and beautiful truck, first of all, GAUGES! you need to have gauges to know what your engine is doing at all times, on your truck i would reccomend at least boost, and a pryometer, placed before the turbo, or you can do a post turbo setup, but the readings are less accurate, and dont respong as quickly as pre turbo readings do. i would reccomend a trans temp gauge as well, you dont have to monitor the fuel pressure on the 12v trucks like you do on the 24v trucks, but it never hurts to have a fuel pressure gauge. now once you get that done, you need to free up your engine, meaning a good intake system, i have the AFE pro gaurd7 stage II on my truck which might not be exactly what you want, so i would reccomend the stage I system which easily supports alot of air flow, i highly reccomend the progaurd 7 filter, (yellow media color) if has a high filtration rating, yet still provides good air flow, a 4" exhaust system, MBRP makes a good turbo back kit, if you live in the salt belt, get the t304 stainless steel system, should last the life time of your truck, if you dont mind noise, straight pipe that SOB! you'll never regret it. if you havent done so already, go throught and change all the fluids and filters in the truck, check the overflow valve spring for proper height (spring should measure one half an inch), adjust valves, all these things will help your truck run better, and more efficiently. now that we've cover the basics, you want to turn your fuel up in your pump, the 12v pumps, especially the one in your truck are capable of flowing alot of fuel, there are many aftermarket upgrades that can be done, yet you have the slushbox auto, you wont be able to do much at all with the auto in stock form, you can change the fuel plate out, i would reccomend a #10 plate, it gives good mid and upper power, yet is still mild on the bottom, if you were to look at the plate, most people would describe the fuel curve as a "half moon" curve because that's what it looks like, there are more agressive plates, but i would suspect the would be the demise of your transmission in stock form. if you remove the allen plug ontop of your AFC housing you can spin the star wheel counterclockwise(tworads the front of the engine) for more pre boost fuel, this star wheel has only affect on low boost conditions, and does nothing to mid and upper enigne RPM. well good luck with you truck, and happy bombing! Oo.
