Just made the move from 2nd Gen to 3rd this last weekend purchasing an 06 SLT quadcab 4wd.

Having been through every possible scenario with my 2nd gen. including two VP's , 3 LP's, a new computer, new injectors, new alternator, new exhaust manifold etc. , what should I expect from my 3rd gen? I don't expect to be making any serious mods as the truck is a daily driver and pulls our 22' toyhauler.

I had a long post written but decided the best advice is to not idle it if you can avoid it, and perform regular fluid and filter changes. Beyond that, drive it and enjoy.

Being an 06 there isn't too much to worry about. The LP is fine and will support more than stock HP.

I would consider a programmer or rokktech to advance the timing back to a reasonable level. If I didn't have a Smarty Jr I would have a rokktech.

You may also consider a little better fuel filter, wether its a Baldwin PF7977 in the OE canister or adding another one, I prefer the GDP MK2+ big line kit.

I would have the fast idle enabled so that you can bump the idle up when cold or idling for a prolonged period.

Otherwise, drive it and enjoy it.

I am TRULY HAPPY with my 2006. So far, just a great performing truck.

I use the Baldwin 5-micron fuel filter in the stock fuel filter cansiter and also have the GDP 2-micron add-on fuel filtration with the big line kit. Too much idling HAS proven to be a problem for many.

Regular and consistent maintenance is about all you'll need to do.
