Hey Guys, Haven't been on the page much lately but I have a cool problem I'm hopeing someone may have some info on.

My buddies old truck, 97 Ext. Cab, 4x4, 5spd, 215 pump, Piers head, Prince Twins and injectors, made a hair over 600 HP the last time it dynoed. It was late August of 04, not good air, 85 degree. He bought a 95 single cab, 4x4, automatic. He swapped out the 215 pump with the 160. Also put the Piers head onto the 95 and installed a Piers cam. Same injectors, timing is north of 20 mm lift (not sure how far), and is running a Suncoast Converter and transmission.

He dynoed tonight, about the same air and temp and rolled a solid 685 HP. My question is, why the large increase? Everything else is static. Did the pull in O. D. Locked up.

Any one want to take a shot at why the large increase... ... ... ... .....

Jim

Now THAT is my kind of problem (gaining 85hp) :p

And I am with Preston, I sure don't have an answer.

Same dyno? What are the uncorrected and corrected numbers?

685hp is sweet sweet sweet for a 215 pump IMO

Timing difference could be some, air quality some more, little things like lift pump, fuel filter, no floor mat :-laf , tipped the dyno operator more. :p

But regardless, bring that thing to IRP and lay down a wicked fast pass.

Hey David, I talked to you last December in Houston  . Sorry I don't have the corrected or uncorrected numbers. The dyno was the same, even the same operator.

On the first truck, the dyno was only about a week old. They mostly run vettes', cameros', and mustangs'. It (the dyno) would now be almost a year old.

Like I said, it is a cool problem to have (gain 85 H. P. ) we (my buddy and I) were just a LITTLE surprised :D :-laf . Now for some tuning and hopefully finding another 15 H. P.

Jim

P. S. Is there much differance in piston configuration on a 95 160 hp engine vs a 97 215 hp engine? I was not present when they were doing the head swap.

did the '97 have an aftermarket cam? that is probably the difference.

Scrappy could be right here. I re-read your original post and had assumed the cam came out of the first motor into the second one.

That is correct. The cam WAS NOT in the 97 motor. I thought the cam was good for around 35 to 45 hp but helped with top end temps   .

I know last weekend we walked a lightly modded Z06 from 40 to 110 mph BBBAAADDDD, two plus on him. This truck weights 5900# with him in it.

Thanks guys, we are headed to the strip tonight, Houston Raceway Park Baytown Texas for a little 1320 testing. Anybody there look for a gray single cab diesel 4x4.

Later

Jim

Sorry for the false alarm on 1320 testing... ... ... ... ... . I think his wife found the credit card bill :{ . He called me all down in the dumps, something about the wife and dinner and a movie... ... ... . haven't spent any time with her lately yada, yada, yada.

Maybe Sunday... ... ... ... ... ... ... .....

PRO-LOC Performance!

MDW, I think those are the same ones he dyno'ed with last time. Meaning they (your old injectors) were in both trucks. I could be wrong, I need to ask Mark.

DavidTD, I stand to be corrected, but I believe it was a 1. 91. The truck launches funny. It leaves then does what I call a squat jump. It gets out about 2 to 3 truck lengths, starts to really squat from the power then does a little jump like the rear springs are unloading and the tail end dances to the right. You have to be standing fairly close by to notice it. He is not running any type of suspension mods, just Rancho 9000's and he has removed a spring or two.

Fletcher, Sounds like a good possibility. That transmission is awsome  . He hits lock-up and it's like a whole nother gear. I have only ridden in one other truck running a manual valve body SunCoast, and that was some time back.

Thanks Guys,

Jim

Hey Dave, if I'm running a stock 215 pump(370 injectors) and pulling really hard at 1700 degrees at 85 psi (Water On) is it making any power? :)

Jim

Time for the EDM's to go in!
