Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) What causes an 0253 code?

My good friends truck, 98. 5 24V, 5 speed. Anyway, he said it kinna hesitates, and i coded it and got P0253

Fuel Injection Pump Fuel Valve Open Circuit

What causes this code, and how can i fix it?? Any ideas?? Thanx!

As long as the power grounds to the injection pump are good,he needs an injection pump

Does he have any mods?

I had the same code a few times even had the dead pedal once. Turned out it was my comp box going south.



I removed the comp and all was well. Had it fixed by edge, no more problems and (so far) no more codes.

So either he has bad grounds to the VP or his comp box is going south?? I will take his comp off and see what happens, hopefully that is what it is, as he just bought it. Does edge have any warrenty on their comp boxes?? Thanx guys, much appreciated!!!

Edge warrantied my comp box, even though I wasn't even the original purchaser and I didn't have receipts or any info on its origins, no questions asked. THAT'S service. You should have no problems. I think the guy's name I dealt with was Justin Kelly (I only remember that because that's also the same name of my best friend from tech school in the Air Force).

When I ran the ground for the comp box to the air horn like the directions said I got the code 0253, when I grounded it to the battery the problem went away.
