All the suddenly today, I started getting one chime after the motor is started. In the past I didn't have any chimes since I turned off the seatbelt minder. Anyone know what this one chime means? The truck runs fine and none of the lights stay on, so I'm at a loss.

TIA!!

It's the ABS computer. Watch the dash... you'll see the ABS light remain on for a second or 2 after startup. This causes the chime. Happens to mine almost all the time (almost). Since my ABS is working fine, I have not been concerned with it. I see it as a "glitch".

Thanks for the info folks, but I have a feeling it's not the ABS as I'm hearing a buzzing then clicking sound from the driver's side of the motor. I'm assuming it's something to do with the motor, maybe grid heater???, so I started a thread under the drivetrain forum called "buzz, then clicking, help!"

not to argue or anything, but I checked for diag codes after I started hearing the one chime and sure enough I had set a code for the battery temp sensor rational/functionality. I think the chime is to tell you have you have a code. Once the code cleared itself I stopped hearing the chime.

I must have been blind yesturday or something has changed because I noticed today that the ABS light was on for a couple seconds after the motor was started. I guess it's time to take the truck in to the dealer to see if there is a ABS code set as it had not done this in the past.

Definitely post the results of your visit. Mine has done that since I can remember, but I've attributed it to a self-test for the ABS. Other than noticing the sound it hasn't bothered me.

I looked at mine today, I think its from the oil pressure being low on startup. The abs light is off if you leave the key on long enough before start.

BDuff,

I looked at TSB 08-004-03 but it's for '03s and it came out in March of '03. I've got an '04 and can't believe Dodge would come out with a TSB with a fix and not use the fix on future builds.

You can turn off the seatbelt minder? How? I always wear mine but I hate that damn chime.

What is the seat belt minder? Are you refering to a chime or the red light on the dash? Mine does not chime, but I would like to get rid of the red light.

Thanks.

We're referring to the chime. The light will stay on even if the seat belt minder is off.

Thanks. My chime is mute already. Looks like the black tape over the light may be the solution to that annoying light.

Not that I don't use the seatbelts anyway, but I don't use them when driving around the farm or on backroads all the time. And that light is nasty.

There has to be a wire that goes to your seatbelt so it can tell if you have it hooked or not. All you have to do is figure out how it works. Might need to put two wires together or it might be a ground thing. That would get rid of the light.

Find the small plug mounted close to the right rear drivers seat leg. On the side of the plug that goes under the carpet or away from the seat you can scotch-lock the wires together and WAMMO no more seat belt light.

p. s. put the drivers seat all the way forward for easier access...
