What causes one chime?

Just lay the wires in there and press down the metal tab to "short" the two wires together.



I still haven't found the seat belt minder disable feature... anybody got a page number?

Dont' remember the page number, but, the procedure is, engine off, latch the seatbelt, start the engine, wait until the light goes out, unbuckle and rebuckle the seatbelt three times.

Couldn't get that to work?? I must be doing something wrong. Anyway I put a scotch-lock on the drivers buckle wires and that took care of both the chime and the dash lamp. Thanks

Mine has been doing this for a LONG time. The one chime sounds when the ABS light is on. Even when I wait for the ABS light to go off before starting, it comes back on after starting and does another self check (I am assuming) and the chime.



Asked the dealer to check it when I was there. They called later to tell me that was normal (yeah, right). I figured since everything is working okay, I would just live with it.



If anybody finds out for sure what is causing it, please let me know. It doesn't do it all the time; just 99% of the time.

This may or may not be what is going on with yours but here is what I found on mine:



With the auto door lock function disabled, if I start the truck and THEN buckle my belt I will always get the extra chime.



With the auto door lock function enabled I don't get the extra chime.



Now... If I hop in and buckle up first and THEN start the truck I am rewarded with no chimes at all.



Just today I shorted the drivers seat belt buckle wires together so maybe something new will happen

once in a while mine wont make any dash noises at all... usually only at restart when engine is warm. mike in w. n. c.

Thank you very much Gypsyman. I will do this. I think we should be able to select how dumb we want the truck to think we are. This would vary the number of ways it reminds us to do things.

Thanks Matt400 for the suggestions, but I still get the one chime. My auto door lock has always been enabled, and I've tried every scenario I can think of; seat belts buckled/unbuckled before inserting the key, close door before/after inserting key, etc.



The dealer telling me this is normal was a good one. I started a thread on this chime issue long ago (see thread below), but all the responses I got said they never encountered this problem. See:

But now it appears some others are encountering this problem. Let's hope we can finally determine the cause!Oo.

Chime problem fixed

I too have had a single chime under the following circumstances. Get in truck, insert key, turn on so wait to start light goes out, start truck, single chime will sound after engine is running. Does not matter whether seat belt is buckled or not.



Took to dealer a few weeks ago for replacement of door seals on TSB. Mentioned this problem. They reported that the plug on the ABS module was loose on one wire. The removed the plug, used dielectric grease to lubricate all the connectors and reseated the plug - correcting the loose wire. Since then, every time I buckle my seat belt first before starting truck, and the truck starts as normal, no chime sound.



I have waited to post this to make sure it was not just a few times good. A couple times I let off the starter too soon and the engine did not start and I had to hit the starter again, after which I got one chime. I attribute that to operator error

t6_man - No codes for ABS problem. They specifically noted that on the sheet. As far as convincing your dealer, maybe go sit in other trucks on the lot and find one that does not do it. I understand you should not have to . . . but you know how it works.

Anyone know where the ABS sensors are so I can just clean the connections and make sure everything is tight?

The ABS Module he was talking about is under the hood.

Standing at the drivers front fender you will find it right next to the battery on the right. Its the box with all the brake lines going into it.



To pull the connector you have to first remove the red tab that is a safety lock for the connector.

Thanks- HOCummins04 - Did you have problems with water leaking? My truck has a drip coming from the grab handle. I figured it was the windshield though. Maybe the door seals?

The door seals in the TSB are the outer most "lip" that gets torn from opening and closing the front doors at the "corner" at the bottom of the windshield. I have no water leaks, but I doubt this TSB would cover any leak up by the handle. Sounds like you need to see your dealers "water doctor"
