I thought I just forgot to set the brake when my truck started a roll down a hill last week. (a very stout garbage can stopped it)Tonight my wife parked in the driveway and was walking arround the front when she heard it release all by itself:eek: ... ... What is the fix for this?..... Is there a safety recall on the parking brake? If not, there should be!I'm just GLAD I wasn't launching my boat Blub... blub..... blub... ... .

I have never had this problem, but you might want to give a careful look at the mechanism that locks when you set the brake. I don't know how the lever works that releases the brake, but maybe it is preventing full engaugement. I sure wouldn't trust it. use park or put it in low gear.

Don't know but had same problem , But you can prevent a run away by max effort on pedal and make sure it put shift in first gear . LOL Ron in Louisville KY:eek:  :D

Pumperdude,

It has happened to me twice now. Here is the thread that relates to my incident.

I've had the mechanism out and could find nothing broken or obviously worn.

I submitted the incident to the NHTSB because I truly believe it is a safety matter. I never heard back from them, but I would suggest that everyone who has ever had this happen should submit it - maybe if there are enough incidences they will force DC to do a recall.

I currently own 7 vehicles (a whole nuther story) and the ONLY time I wil "trust" the parking brake is on totaly level ground. If there is even a slight grade, I use a wheel chock in addition to parking brake. This is not Dodge specific, I trust none of them. Have had several near mishaps, once about 10 years ago, I sprinted over 100 yards as fast as I possible could to catch truck (Ford) rolling along in neihbors yard, threw open the door so hard it damaged the hinges, stopped truck less than an inch (it was probably going 15mph or more) from hitting their house. Haven't trusted any of them, any make since.
