I've installed a Kenwood stereo/CD player/satellite receiver and replaced the 6" x 9" and 5. 25" speakers. There is now static in the speakers when the transmission is in gear. The static maintains a constant volume in satellite mode, AM/FM and CD mode, no matter the position of the volume control or engine RPM. It is not constant, but regular enough to be a distraction. Knock it out of gear, the static stops; back in gear, the static starts again. The static MIGHT be worse in the morning, but I can't swear to that. I have grounded the antenna, the radio and the radio chassis to a negative battery terminal. I have a noise filter inline and have wrapped the radio and wiring in aluminum foil without making a difference. What could cause the static when the transmission is in gear and how do I stop it?

Check the engine to chassis (frame) grounds. Use a volt meter to perform a volt drop test on the ground cable connection on the battery to the engine. Then check from the engine to the body. Should not be more than . 4 volts while cranking. Try installing an extra ground of about 10ga wire from transmission to body.
