I had my truck towed to ATS because they thought I had one of the after market injectors I bought from them stick open. Well after they got it into their shop they found that #2 cylinder had absolutely no compression. They pulled the head off to find that one of the stock valve seets dropped down and caused the valve to damage the top of the piston. They also said the injectors are fine.

I spoke to a dodge mechanic and he said it sounds like the injector stuck open and overfueled the cylinder causing extreme heat and causing the damage.

What are your guys thoughts on this? Is this a typical thing to happen?

Excessive and repeated high heat situations have been causing the early common rail motors to drop seats and valves. The 04. 5 and up motors have had some changes done to accomadate the higher heat.

Is the 04. 5 head a direct swap onto the 305/555 blocks? If so, here comes another project!

Sure would like to know what kind of EGTs your head has seen on a regular basis and how long you maintain those EGTs when racing or pulling. Any info you can share would be appreciated.

I did the same exact thing on my old 03..... after market injectors are not the problem... . the heat is. Instead of swapping heads I would just buy a heavy duty valve train. EEP has them I beleive.
