what chip for stock 03

My son has a stock 03 with 6 spd and i want to get him some extra oomph without killing the clutch. I am thinking the smarty but I have all I need on my 02 with the Edge comp set on 1x1. We both pull camp trlrs and I want to get him something for Xmas. What does everyone recommend.

I would go with the smarty. Bob and Marco are always updating and improving the software a HUGE plus in my book. You also can grow into the smarty start with a lower setting and then if/when you do other mods to the truck you can bump it up. The fact that you can read and erase codes is also a huge value.

I run the Smarty and the Edge EZ in my 05', but my stepdad runs a bullydog powerpup in his 03' and has had no problems or complaints form his for 3 years.

I've been running level 5 for a year with no clutch issues.

I had a Smarty set on level 3 on 2006 6 speed. One trip towing my 8000 lb travel trailer and the clutch slipped. The truck has 27000 miles on it.

It slipped in 5th and 6th gear pulling up a not very steep hill. I stepped down on the throttle and it picked up about 200-RPM's and didn't go any faster. I have owned the truck since new and never have slipped the clutch. I was very happy with the Smarty, and saw about a 1. 5 mpg improvement in fuel mileage both towing and empty. The extra 50hp was perfect for towing, bottom line is it did slip the clutch.

I spoke with Rip at Source Automotive and he said" I guess you got one of the crappy factory clutches. " I set the Smarty back to stock and hope I'll be able to nurse the clutch for a few more miles. Their will be a new South Bend clutch installed soon and it will be back to the Smarty.

Understand that I was very happy with the Smarty. Just be aware that because the Smarty instructions say you can run it up to level 5 and spare the stock clutch, it may not be the case.

My 2003 can slip the clutch on level 7 or higher, but it has 139000 miles on it! Of course the clutch is the next project.

Edge easy 40-50-60-70- I pull 40ft fithwheel use the 50 setting when pulling. Remove it when I get home. 03 HOP six speed .
