Now I know what most of you guys are thinking, "What kind of a question is that!" and the truth of that matter is that when I had made up my mind on getting a diesel, I was set on the powerchoke.. I loved the looks of the superduty's and was set on diesel so it seemed like a no-brainer... right?

Well here's a pic of the truck that convinced me to go with cummins.

I took the pic will attending the Canfield 4x4 Jambo in ' 04

and all a could say is WOW!

Having said that, I would also like to say thanks to all of the TDR members for filling this site with a wealth of information..... keep the posts coming..... this is an AWSOME site!!

P. S. Sorry about the pic size/quality

my decision was a little more educated...

I wanted a powerhoax too, but I started researching and found that the Cummins was capable of more power! :-laf

I drove Chev's all my life and diesels for about 15 years and I wasn't impressed with them. When they changed the body style in 2004 I really took a dislike to them. Afriend had a Dodge with the Cummings in it and raved about it all the time, he had made up a set of dual 4" exhaust and put an edge box on it and it was a nice ride. A Ferd was simply not an option nor was the Durasmack. No turning back now!

knew I wanted a diesel. Had primarily looked at Ford, because I had supplier discount. Also had discount papers for GM, but never took a look.

Ended up on Cummins after reading a bunch about them on RV. NET. Also from a technical point of view. 30% less parts than a v8 diesel. cold start to 20 below without block heater. .

I always drove chevs too. But they wouldnt work with me on price at all. I really liked the look of the Superdutys so I bought a powerstroke in 99. I had it till 2003, my friend bought an 03 6. ooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhh. That was it for me after seeing his truck in the dealer 60% of the time I decided to go with the cummins (on his advice they had a first gen that pulled a bobcat everyday for 350K without a problem) So here I sit wishing I would have just bought a cummins engine and put it in my 99 superduty, because I have the junkiest truck around this great engine. ie CRACKED DASH!! at 50K dents everywhere from the thin sheetmetal and the squeekiest interior I have ever heard. My truck has 54K and is in worse shape than my 99 was at 90K.

I was looking for a truck in 2001 and started by looking at Fords because Ford = truck. Visited the Dodge website and started looking at Dodge diesels. I assumed that because the 5. 9 gasser and 5. 9 diesel were both sold by Dodge, that they must be the same block, yada, yada ,yada. I can't remember if it was on the Dodge website or in the Dodge brochure, but the link to the TDR was shown. I clicked, ... the rest is history.

Out of 31 yrs of driving truck they have all been cummins motors except one detroit for a year. I'll stick with a motor that has proven to me to be reliable & get long life out of.

My decision to buy the Dodge/Cummins was based on several things: The wife and I have owned a Dodge or a Jeep for the last 15 years and have been 100% satisfied with them. My research lead me to the fact that the Cummins is the best diesel engine being made. And finally, when my company decided to take our company trucks and give us a car allowance it pushed me over the edge. It also helped when the company added Damiler-Chrysler to the car discount plans. Ed B

I always drove fords thought they were great, didn't want anything to do with a dodge. Then I started dating my wife and working for her dad on his dairy farm. He has nothing but dodges. When I drove his 1st Gen welding truck with a cummins, turned up and a chrome stack, I was hooked. He could pass me with that truck going up hill with my 5. 4L F-250, his truck weighs 10,800 lbs.

I've been around diesel engines for most of my life. The Cummins is a real diesel. The competition are wantabe diesels. Glowplugs! Ya gotta be kidding me!

Less parts, turbo off to the side of the block where cool air can flow around it (not in between the cylinders where heat soak can be a problem) ease of maintenance and DEAL (my friend worked at the Dodge dealer and we got the truck for dealer cost because it was a 6-speed, not an auto. I wasn't about to tell them that I actually preferred the manual trans. ) Oh, and I am 6'4" tall and have to run the seat forward to reach the pedals.

Back in 97 I had little diesel experience. Then I borrowed a friends 91 cummins with a tweaked pump and no muffler. The sound of the cummins was music to my ears :D A month later I placed an order for a new 98 cummins, and I have never looked back. 8 years and 100K+ making 450+ rear wheel hp, my cummins has never even skipped a beat, and I could not be happier with it. :)

Ford.....

because I always had one. I managed a fleet of 'em and only knew Ford.

Then in 2001 I changed jobs and the school I became employed with had this fleet of buses w/the Cummins 5. 9 . I figured that if the bus would pull 85 kids down the road, it would benefit me to look into this.

The most impressive notion was the 1989 unit that had over 10,000 hours on the original engine... original injection pump etc. :D

I since then picked up two first genneration trucks, both with tons of miles on 'em :)

The Cummins "B" engine is in a lot of different machinery, boats, gensets, tractors, etc. etc. I figured if it is good enough for all of those other equipment manufactures, then parts, service and dependability is good enough for me. I also work at a Cummins Warranty facility for a couple years.

Started with the Cummins Engine Co. in 1951. Did a lot of overhaul on these engines and do not regret any time wasted. They are an excellant engine. Im on my second CTD pickup now and never have been sorry.

Actually picked the truck first. When Dodge came out with the new body style in 94 I was looking for a new truck. Thought the interior and the ride was better than the Ford. (plus I had just had a terrible experience with my wifes last ford car).

Couldn't decide between the v-8 or the v-10 gas engines. A friend of mine got me to test drive the diesel, and I liked it. Did a little research, and found out what a jewel the Cummins engine is and bought it.

Mine was simple, I owned a 04 6. 0. I honestly think the dodge truck itself is inferior to the superduty platform from what Ive seen with my ownership, but to look under the hood and see an engine I can work on instead of a rats nest of wires and plastic makes the suffering worth wile. Oh yeah did I mention the MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF TORQUE these things have??? Oo.

I wanted a Dodge since they introduced the second gen body style in '94, but I wanted a big V10. I test drove several V10's over the years until I started driving Cummins working as a mechanic. The Cummins made the V10 feel like a total dog, then I started test driving Cummins and the more I drove it the more I wanted it. Until I finally landed my dream truck in '02.

Grunt

The bug bit me back in '98. I was waiting in the showroom of a Dodge dealership in Bishop, CA. , checking out the brand new 24-valve Rams while my Jeep ZJ was being fixed. Then I heard one fire up in the parking lot - it shook me. 4 years later I convinced the wife that the old Jeep just didn't cut it any more as trailer tower and we needed a diesel truck. We have friends with 7. 3L Superdutys, and that seemed the way to go, but I started researching. All trucks have issues, but by far, the most knowledgable and supportive internet site is the TDR. That affected my decision considerably, that and the fact that the Cummins is a heavy-duty jewel of an engine. I really wanted a crew cab, but Dodge Quad Cab wrapped around a Cummins is better than no Cummins.
