When I was a kid, always loved the old Powerwagons (early 70's), the snofiters and sno commanders too.

Bought a reg cab gasser in 95 then saw a cherry 98 12v QC on the lot one day. Cranked up that Cummins and fell in love. Bought it not knowing a bloomin' thing about diesels. Learned a little along the way from a few friends at a little site on the internet... . :D

Mine was based on the fact the Cummins is a straight six. Everyone knows that straight sixs have a lot of torque, long lasting, and smooth running. Also how many aluminum V8 diesels have you seen in the over the road big rigs? Nada.

it's a inline 6 and built like a brick I TRIED TO BY-PASS THE CUSSING FILTER house, plus it makes that wonderful noise :-laf

A mechanic friend of mine helped alot in convincing me to go with the Cummins. I had originally started out looking at Duramax and Powerstrokes, but after talking to the friend about the Powerstrokes and him telling me if I bought one to buy a new one and plan on getting rid of it before 100K, I then struck the PS off the list. He really had nothing bad to say about the Cummins engine, that rarely seen them in his shop for anything major. At the time the Duramaxs to me and him just did not have the proved reputation of longevity that the Cummins had so the rest was history. I had drove Chevy 4x4 gassers for years with pretty good luck with them, but so far I have not been sorry for choosing the Dodge Cummins.

Cant roll up to the Mopar Nationals with my Plymouth behind a Ford or Isuzu now can I? Seriously, I have worked on J. D. tractors and combines, Detroit Diesels, Caterpillars, etc. I am glad I looked under the hood of the so called competition before I purchased. They scared me away.

THAT CUMMINS ENGINE JUST DOES IT FOR ME

I had a 92 ford f 250 7. 3 diesel the truck does not even come close to the dodge cummins BEST truck we have ever had hands down

if the engine ever go out we will put a new 24v cummins rite in and keep going

we keep our truck in good shape

we love that truck!!!

One good reason to get the CTD is because Ford owns Cummins, and everyone knows that Ford always has good engines. Oo.

Wait, I thought they used to own Cummins but they sold their controlling interest but now they have re-acquired it and are going to start putting them in the F-250's and 350's? :D

I bought mine because of the reputation. I never even compared them. Nothing to compare in my mind. I've wanted one since the redesign in '94. Actually, in the last few years the first gens have grown on me.

I have always respected Cummins engines--their reliability and power is legendary. But when the 2nd Gen trucks came out I said, "No way!" I just thought they were too ugly. Then I drove a 1st Gen, and in 1999 I started thinking the 2nd Gens were kinda nice-looking. Then I bought my '95 and I love it!

My story is has multiple levels. I was so very close to ordering a GMC 1/2-ton with a 6. 5 Turbo. Looking back, it is scary. Here's why I bought a Dodge with a Cummins:

I bought into Dodge's pre-production hype of the Generation II trucks. I delayed my ordering in the spring of '93 until I could learn more about the new Dodges. It sounded like Dodge was doing things right with the new truck, so I ordered a '94 in July of '93. Therefore my first Dodge was an early '94, pre-catalytic converter.

I really wanted the Cummins engine but just couldn't bring myself to drive a Generation I Dodge. I was nervous about the GM 6. 5 Turbo, but there weren't as many choices during that early-90's era. At the time, I felt that the GMC was the lesser of two evils, if you will. The Generation II truck changed everything.

The Cummins was literally an inline-6 tractor engine and also used in medium-duty trucks. That speaks volumes in my book. (Funny story, I once was talking to a Ford dealer who was critical of the Cummins as being a "tractor engine". I quickly let him know that is why I own a Cummins!)

After driving my new Dodge with a Cummins, it quickly became apparent that I had made the right choice.

Like many here I was a chevy guy, even as an engineer on ships I did not want a noisy clattering diesel. I did not want to bring work home so to speak, then a co worker let me use his 95 12 valve for a day and I was hooked. came home put the chevy up for sale and started a search for a dodge As a engineer I know that this is a real Diesel engine not a wanna be. it still amazes me what the cummins can do.

I always had Furd gassers and was wanting to go to a diesel, when a friend of mine who is a fleet line diesel mech. told me about the Cummins and told me to buy what ever it was in. That was in '88, '89, so I drove one and couldn't believe the torq. It took me a long 10 or so years to get to the position to finally drive away with my '01 and haven't regreted not one day I waited. (Ok, I guess maybe a couple of days for not going into debt over my eyeballs) Now I own 3

#1 Price. GMC and Ford couldn't get close.

#2 Dealer Service Department. Enumclaw Dodge. They are not 100% perfect but they do understand who the customer is and work hard to see that I am pleased.

The last 9 years i'v been driving a ford 7. 3 for work( on my second one now),just hit 350000 miles total between the two trucks. I have spoaken to alot of guys driving dodges,1st and 2nd genners with well over that many miles on ONE truck compared to my two---need i say more, thats the reason why there's a Cummins in my garage. :D :D :D

what convinced me to go cummins? well i have been around trucks and equipment all my life, been around the cummins since it came out,and have owned it in other forms besides a dodges. have gm and ford diesels as well and they all treated me well from a engine and truck both point of view. my trucks work and work hard, gettin miles out of the older gm diesels wasnt a problem, they just didnt have the power i needed. started adding fords to the line up when the 7. 3 engines came out, liked them, loved them when the powerstrokes hit the seen. power and long lasting ,really liked the trucks and the drivetrain. had a couple of 12v dodges in the mix, liked the engine ,but that was it. 05 comes around time to buy another truck, well, didnt want a duramax, just cant agree with the aluminum heads and the reports of injector problems. the fords what i wanted, but no more 7. 3 and the price tag has just gotten out of hand with them, not to mention the 6. 0 stories i had been hearing. so here i'am giveing the dodge one more try,so far the drivetrain had been great, but i have some issues with the truck itself[slave cylinder leaking,bubbleing/thin paint]that i hope to get handled when i take it in for the front spring recall.

I've worked for Cummins for 25 years, mostly at the Jamestown Engine Plant where we build the 11 & 15 Liter heavy duty truck engines. I spent two years working at CMEP, home of the 5. 9L.

I know the folks who design the engines, the folks who design the assembly quality systems (I'm one of them), and the folks who build the engines.

No reason to look at any other engine.
